1966 Rolex Advert

I was at The Royal Geographical Society yesterday and whilst leafing through some of the old Geographical Journals I found this advert in the December 1966 issue. The Royal Society International Geophysical Year Antarctic Expedition ran from 1955–59. I'm sure you'll agree that the Rolex marketing team have progressed somewhat in the last fifty years.

I dunno, I prefer the simple, classy message above to all that "Rolex Way" hyperbole.

Kind of like comparing apples to oranges...it was a different time back then. The advertising seemed to be effective for the market at the time.

Having grown up in that era, it's kind of cool to re-visit the vibe that was prevalent back in the day. Love the show "Mad Men" for that very reason.

And I guess you could say that they marketing is effective for today's market, although personally I agree with Adam about some of it being 'ad nauseum'....

Rolex had much more elaborate advertising during this period and many years before.

Just an example:

I love finding old advertisements. Always cool to see what the marketing departments wanted their audience to know
