To my Italian friends

Dear fellow Rolex lovers,

Me and my wife are planning a trip to Italy in February. Any advice on which city/town to go if I am picking a few pieces (Maybe 3-4 pieces) while we are on holiday? Anyone know any dealers in Italy that maybe willing to give discount if I am getting a few piece at the same time?

My advice would be to go on the rolex website and ring up some authorized dealers in Italy. This would be the best idea especially if you are looking for 3 or 4 watches - they will most likely have to order them in to get them ready for you. Highly unlikely an AD has them all in stock. I am sure you can work out a good deal on the phone if you are buying several watches as you say.

Italy has a very high sales tax rate and the gbp/euro fx rate isn't great for you... Italy not the best place to buy watches.

Verona is a nice place. Perhaps you might wanna to try this grey dealer. You can write to them prior your visit or not visit.

Try the smaller towns, they will be more willing to deal. Turin has some good resellers so maybe there and nearby ADs do deals.

Anyone know if there is an AD on Sicily? Some family are going next month for a wedding.

Deal with Bodoni in Turin. Best (and biggest) grey dealer around.

I will also be heading over to Italy in about a week. I will be coming from the US. It sounds like a wouldn't be getting much of a deal in Italy, compared to a trusted seller here in the US?
Probably Rolex or Panerai.

I have had a good transaction with Sorelle Ronco in Vicenza. Communication was so-so (mind you, I am Italian...) but they were overall professional and offered me a good deal. Definitively contact them if Vicenza is on your radar.

Bodoni never cared to reply to my inquires. Not sure I would go there.

Never bought a Rolex there but I can advise you on two things.

- Buy new unless you are an expert and have balls of steel.
- If you are going to request VAT on your return, head to the airport early; Leave the Rolex in its original state (NEW, Unused) and accessible as you will need to show it.

There seems to be alot of grey sellers in Italy. Keep them coming. Looks like Turin will be the place to go unless someone points me to a better location.

If you non-EU resident, Italy is the best place to buy Rolex due to 2 reasons:

1) VAT in Italy is quite high (21% or 22%... do not remember exactly) but you are able to fully reclaim VAT when you are leaving EU. E.g. I claimed back full VAT and had to pay EUR 50 processing fee only.

2) Currently Italy is in quite hard financial situation. Accordingly, it is possible to negotiate rather big discounts. I bought my Rolex DJII with diamond dial in Rome, AD Haussmann in via del Babuino. I have got 15% discount. Previously i had zero relationship with this AD. When I compared my total Rolex cost I saw that any trusted seller could not match my price.

If you are going to buy 3-4 pieces I assume you should get at least 20& discount and also claim back your VAT.

Recently i travled a lot and compared Rolex prices in Italy, Hong Kong, Seoul, Manila, Kuala Lumpur. Italian prices after claiming VAT were significantly lower than in other countries.

If you are in Rome, try AD Haussmann, both in via del Corso and in via del Babuino.

They are reseller of all the most important watch brands and you can reach a good deal with them.

Ciao

Brandizzi in Rome if you're in the market for used/vintage. Picked up a 16700 there when I visited back in 2014

I will only be after new Rolexes. I don't mind where I go in Italy as I haven't booked the flights or hotel yet.

I'd be surprised if you can beat a trusted seller's price in Italy.

You probably don't know what you are talking about. Between VAT refund and favorable exchange rate the very opposite is true.

I put together a list of Rolex MSRP's around the world including/excluding tax and adjusted for different currencies - www.oropad.com - which includes the prices in Italy. Might help in this scenario ;)
