No way I’d sell mine. Not just because I love it but because of sentimental reasons. If I grow my collection I might feel different with subsequent purchases

I'd probably give it to a friend or relative before I'd sell it, but I'd have no problem selling any of my stuff.

I kept my first when I got my second. A little voice inside was pushing me to own one Rolex only but I didn't want to let it go. I'm glad I didn't listen because I'd have to fork out 4 grand more than what I was offered if I was to buy the same piece in the same BNIB condition today. I still wear it once or twice a week. So if you like your Exp, don't let it go.

I purchase my OP39 brand new about 2 months ago. I toy with the idea of selling it and getting a sports model watch. I am telling myself that I am going to wait at least a year before thinking about flipping. The loss I would take is what is mainly making me not sell :(

I sold my Daytona and no regrets. I did not like it enough to keep and bought another I like better. This is just stuff - I am not going to get sentimental about it.

To get cash for a next watch I will sell off my Explorer someday. I think I will get over it soon.

It’s just a watch.. if something else appeals to you sell it and move on.. you can’t change the past, never look back... no regrets.

I sold my first, a sub date to buy a SD43, didn't look back. Essentially had a beefier version of the same watch with a new movement design. I do however, believe every man needs to own a submariner and added a Hulk as soon as a I could.

I still have my first (and all others I have acquired since). I have never sold a watch even if I hardly wear it any longer.

I actually did trade + cash for a much lesser watch but I really wanted a "true" tool watch at the time (I thought the Rolex was a little too fancy to beat up). Now I totally regret it. Had I sold/traded it to get another Rolex, I probably wouldn't have minded. I also recently sold the second Rolex I purchased (and the one that got me back into the brand) but that was to help fund a grail-adjecent Rolex so I have zero regrets about that.

I’ve sold or disposed of 99.99% of my “firsts” so I don’t see a reason why I should keep a Rolex. Keeping the first wife and kid however. :)

Yes. Regret it. Wouldn’t wear it likely now that it was a 36mm but would have been nice to keep and pass down.

I recently struggled with this, and almost sold my first Rolex to upgrade to another. I ultimately didn't go through with it and I'm glad I didn't.
I understand people saying "it's just a thing, just a tool, just a watch, no sentimental value, etc." because yes, it is an inanimate object for practical use. However, I understand why it means so much more than just a tool or thing to us here... The fundamental premise of why people purchase a Rolex is actually quite emotional. Let's be real, there's no practical reason one should be purchasing a $5000+ wrist watch when there are PLENTY of substitutes and technical advances that cost magnitudes less and perform better. But for Rolex, it's about the workmanship, design, nostalgia, the "you've made it" factor, the history, the heirloom, the brand's story, the people who've worn these watches... These are all emotional things that have very little real practical value yet we still decide to put down a ton of money to buy into all of those factors. And THUS the first Rolex you purchase can be more emotional than any of the others that follow. And if we purchase a Rolex on the basis of those emotions, then I believe it's totally understandable why getting rid of your first one is difficult. If some reason, a person is purchasing a Rolex for purely practical value, then I suppose it makes sense for them not to put any weight towards selling their first one. |

Just recently sold my first Rolex, a SubC, because I picked up a new BLNR from an AD. I wanted the BLNR originally, but could not find it at retail and settled on the SubC. Happy with my decision so far.

Yep...made that mistake. Bought my FIRST Rolex, a used 16610LV (yes, a Kermit) for $4,350 (M serial)....it was a big purchase at the time. This was 2010. Got it in, wore it for a day and decided it was too small (that and the fact that it was "expensive").
Flipped it to a grey dealer for a $67 profit (after fees and shipping) and thought I did good. Hindsight is 20:20! |

I regretted selling my first Rolex. Fortunately I sold it to a close friend and convinced him to trade it back to me for another Rolex that had no sentimental value. I was fortunate, as most obviously don’t have the opportunity to get their watch back when they have a change of heart.

I own a few now (in my 30s) and I still wear my first Rolex more than I wear any of the other watches. Has a special place with me, all the bumps, scrapes, etc... they all hold a story, as long as the movement is golden I’m happy...
So no I will never regret it as I will never sell it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My first Rolex, BLNR for $7k, discounted by a Swiss AD back in 2014. I will never get rid of it. Just love this watch.

I sold my first in 1996, a TT sub. The next year I picked up a daytona zenith, a watch I still own. I have bought, sold, and flipped 10s of watches but non have been Rolex. I can’t think of any reason to sell my Rolex. I like them all and they retain or gain value. They don’t even seem to go out of fashion (well the ones I have bought). All in all, they’re a solid purchase.

I would keep it. My first Rolex is special to me. Could never dream of selling it. My first was a Datejust 16234 from 2004.
