Will never wear my Submariner to the beach or in the pool! I’d be too scared of the stickers coming off...

I don’t think I’d be digging in the sand like a stray cat, with my watch hand. But sand under the bezel can be taken care of with a little fresh water bath. A far worse scenario would be the unprotected crown on the explorer pops open and goes unnoticed and you dive into a wave or continue digging in the sand.

I am with the OP here. My sub does not go anywhere near sand. Water and snow, fine, but sand? No thanks.

So much easier to strap on a G-Shock or something. Not worth sand under the bezel.

Side-note. That happened to a $2,000 Canon lens I had. I took my gear out to the dunes in So. Oregon and had a great time shooting pics and riding ATV's. Then I realized towards the end of the day I had sand in my lens and every twist was a "Grit grit"...sickening.

I’ve had my sub on at the beaches many times. Even building sand castles with the kids. No issues with sand under the bezzle as long as you don’t turn it. Just wait until you go for a swim and the sand washes away?

I use all of my dive watches at the beach. Rolex, Tudor, Seiko and have never had an issue. Don't even think about it and just rinse them off when I am done.

Oh goodness!!!! This post is precious. 10+ years of almost daily beach time that includes surfing, fishing and even building sand castles (I live1/4 mile from the ocean).

I double pinky swear your Rolex submariner is just fine at the beach gentlemen. Just rinse, the watch and do not turn the bezel near sand. If really feeling frisky, bust out a toothbrush and some dish soap when you get home.

I do fancy the Explorer

I love my Submariner too bits but prefer it in the water(ocean,sea,pool,....)pure as a beach watch i like the Explorer 1 or any Rolex with a fixed bezel better.
What are your opinions?

I actually wear my white Daytona at the beach. Sporty look, but can transition to lunch with a polo and shorts easily. No date and no need to know the date on vacation. I also associate the lighter dial being more consistent with summer.

As for your question, I agree at the beach no real need to have a date or bezel for timing. Exp 1 in that case.

Brilliant statement from forummember Tools from the Mojave Desert:
"I live in the desert, so when I go for a mountain climb, bike ride, the drag-races, or out to a off-road event..The EXP II is the right watch for the event. It doesn't have the fragile rotating bezel to get sand and grit into, and bangin' it against the rocks and dragging through the brush has little affect."

Result : I will get myself an Explorer!

I think a GMT-II is the best beach watch. I set mine to the time zone back at work, and lay there thinking about those poor SOB's working away while I'm catching the rays!

When I lived in Florida, my Sub was with me every day and every beach trip.

Though, I do relate to that feeling of sand under the bezel. When I think back, I can still feel it!

My ExII has been my daily on my PI trip for the reasons stated by the OP and my own experience. Plus, I actually use the GMT function!

I’ve never had a prob w sand under the bezel of my SubC, and it goes w me to the beach every time. I like the water resistance for when I dive to a depth of 6 or 7 feet
