Bracelet: President vs. Submariner

For those who are lucky enough to own both: How do the two compare?

There is no bracelet on the market which beats a President with its hidden clasp imho. Wears like silk and very beautiful.
Some argue that you cannot get a correct fit but if needed with the 1 ½ link there are plenty options.

An Oyster bracelet on a modern Submariner has a very huge glidelock clasp, which is ugly in its appearance and is rather clumsy to adjust. It can give you an optimum fit though.
For aesthetics and ease of use I much prefer the easy link clasp as fitted on the the GMT i.e.

The clasp on the DSSD is even bigger but can be adjusted without removing it from your wrist. Nicely engineered. Somehow on the DSSD it doesn't look all that bad compared to a glidelock on the Sub.

On looks alone, the president is hard to beat. In terms of potential stretching, I guess less risk on the president too.

President is smooth and comfortable. The funny thing is that befor I ever even wanted a DD I always love the aesthetics of the president bracelet. President > Oyster.

But as other have said jubilee is king of comfort!
I use to wear oyster or president mostly on rotation, but now wear my DJ almost daily.

Glidelock is not comfortable on the bottom of your wrist if hands are on a desk as well. The new president on the DD40 is unreal, as is the oyster on a Daytona and GMT.

My very well worn 18078 from 1979 is perfection! Stretched and beat up my by late father.The braclet melts on the wrist. The clasp locks like a bank vault still, why he never ever took it off !

I've never worn a President, but what I can attest to is that I find the glide-lock on my Submariner the most fantastic thing to ever happen to watch bands. It's a long clasp, (It has to be to do what it does) but I feel it adds to the "tool' look of the watch.

All my other watches will at times wear too loose or too tight depending on my wrist swell and after having the pleasure of owning the glide-lock... they totally pale in comfort.

I have both, both are great, but the president is in a league of its own. However you must be able to get a good fit with the prez.

President....gorgeous in WG, YG, or RG. Iconic and unmistakable. Very comfortable, but I understand where some may find a perfect fit difficult. Far less adjustment than an oyster.

Oyster....very appealing with brushed SS professional models, adjustability is outstanding with the glidelock. Also looks great with smaller clasp, and adjustability is very adequate (IMO) with easylink.
Also outstanding look with PCL’s on PM versions!

I have both, I can say that oyster is more comfortable.

Funny enough not the Sub oyster is more the comfortable for me......it is the DJ 36mm oyster, mainly because of the smaller clasp+easy link

I think the president is the best looking but oyster on the Sub C is the most comfortable for me, with it's easy adjustment to which ever temperature/size my wrist is on any particular day

The DJ41 Oyster PCL’s loose their shine from skin oils and anything that touches the links throughout the day. The links are pretty flat compared with the President, so the flat surface is more exposed to things touching it/them. The President, on the other hand, with the semi-circular links only expose a relatively small amount to ‘the elements’. The result is that the President bracelet tends to keep its shine better while you wear it. The same theory probably applies to the potential to earn scratches.

I think comfort is subjective, but I like the adjustability of the Oyster better.

Drawback is no adjustability on a hot day.

A bit late on this thread. I owned a DD from '72 and it had solid end links and folded clasp. I was wondering if the President bracelet ever came with hollow end links? FWIW, it's not a Submariner bracelet; it's an Oyster.

That’s why I find myself returning to the Oyster as the all-seasons all-weather wearer... guaranteed comfort and fit.

It’s the only one I can comfortably travel with.

If only they could devise a President with a glidelock... then my holy grail would be achieved!
