My First Rolex DJ 16233
Just received as a birthday "gift" my first Rolex, a 16233 Datejust (is it pronounced Date Just or "dot juste" as it might in my poor imitation of French). It is an X series from 1991 but it looks in great shape, of course, I'll have to test it over time. I know it has a strap rather than a proper bracelet and a real bracelet (or even an aftermarket in real gold, is going to have to be a future acquisition, but I'm pretty excited about it. I plan to rotate this with my only other "good' watch an ETA Tudor Black Bay (Blue). I don't have a watch winder. Is is advised to wind the unused watch if it is off the wrist for a couple of days (the ETA has a reserve of 36, hours, no idea of the Datejust, or is constant rewinding not recommended, in which case I'll get a winder. Sorry to be so rudimentary in my questions, most of those on this forum have watches that outclass this one but It's still nice to finally have a Rolex after years of yearning. Thanks to "She, who must be obeyed" who spent a while actively discouraging me from buying "another watch" knowing that she was looking for this. Glad to say that the 36mm is just right for my dainty wrists (I'm a big guy but have always had slender wrists)! IMG_1965.JPGIMG_0187.JPG[ATTACH] Somehow the Tudor claimed priority in picture order!

Well done on starting the journey, lots of posts on here about winders. General conclusion, no reason to have a watch functioning if not used, but others don't seem to like setting their watch, which would make sense on a perpetual calendar but not such a big issue on a basic watch. Comes down to preference it really does no harm either way, although it makes little sense to leave them for long periods un wound.

Here's my X serial brother, it was a very good year. :)
1991 16570 Nice DJ. I wouldn't wind it daily unless you have a winder. Daily winding involves overusing two of the weakest areas of your watch, the winding gears and the tube threads. I don't mean they are inadequate in any way its just that the watch was not designed to be constantly opened and wound. Wind it and set it when you use it. |
