That may have been true years ago, but don’t think it is today.

when rolex advertises the dd40 they always use the yg with white dial

if you go on the rolex website, the dd yg white dial is the first one

is that model the one that is the ultimate rolex?

I think the yellow gold DD has been the flagship, and most well known model of Rolex for many years. Even non WIS people will see a DD and instantly know it's a Rolex. Either the white dial or gold dial are the most classic ones.

The flagship Rolex is the one you have wearing on your wrist, the only difference in the Rolex models is mainly the W/R, metal or metal and precious stones, and price

Checked out rolex website and indeed the white dial is featured.

To me the flagship is the champagne dial DD.

Glad to see that the watch on website displays local time.

By any measure one could argue betwixt DD, DJ or Sub as the “best or most important one of a group or system”.

Same holds for which is more iconic.

At Rolex the measure might be net margin - and who knows what that is?

The best model to the buyer/owner could be measured by annual sales and I would guess it’d be the DJ.
