Hype or people had a change of heart??
People are just desperate for any Rolex watch. I mean stores are pretty much devoid of Rolex watches even those that were sitting around all the time. There’s no change of heart.

Always loved the white and blue combination with a touch of red. Nothing like it in the Rolex collection. I tried it on at an AD in San Francisco last year (and currently kicking myself for not pulling the trigger) and the 44, I feel, is not a true 44. It fit well on my 7-in wrist.

DavidSW sells his SS YMII as fast as he gets them. They are really picking up momentum.

Why is Yacht Master II so underrated?

He has a SS on there now. Also, a new YG YM2. $50k…

It’s because it’s “too big” for most people and because it says it’s name on the bezel.

The deep sea has working around the bezel too, but no one seems to mind.

I like it (YM2). The steel, two tone, and YG ones look great imo (the WG and platinum bezel one doesn’t do as much for me personally).

However: 1) I used to sail Laser sailboats. So the countdown timer would’ve been useful/I like the idea.

2) I personally hope that the bezel changes. Keep the triangle. Just put 5, 10, etc markers on it. And then 1 min/sec “ticks” between 45 and the triangle instead (as the last 10-15 seconds matter when counting down).. The 1-10 indication on the bezel is already on the dial and is not needed. Then they could put Yachtmaster 2 (in red?) on the dial instead. A redesigned bezel would make the watch better imo. I also wish that they went back to the “black hands” of the original version, but kept them Mercedes in shape like the second version. More contrast like an Explorer 2 polar.

3) I think that this movement is really under appreciated! It’s a column wheel vertical clutch chronograph with a bezel control ring. Or am I wrong? What an awesome movement!

It’s just hard to justify $50k for the YG. I know that’s common nowadays and even a gold sub is a lot, but for a controversial watch, it’s amazing how much they are asking.

The won’t go back to the blue hands. They just changed the hands and dial in 2017 and called that an upgrade.

What’s wrong w the easy link clasp?

It works great on my GMTs but I prefer the glidelock for the 116688 for a better fit throughout the day.

personally speaking, I find the dial and bezel very busy and ugly(probably the ugliest rolex watch and in top 10 of the overall ugliest luxury watches) but that's just me, big wrist + rolex = Sea Dweller JC 44mm or Anniversary 43mm.
also another factor could be it's price, it's very expensive for SS.

but it doesn't make sense to me.. you want it..but you don't buy it because it's easier to get?...

YM2 IMO the best of the Rolex range. If only Rolex would make an all metal bezel available in stainless steel, then those letters 'Yacht-Master II' on the blue bezel 116680 would not be so obvious?

Here is everything you need to know about the YMII. It’s a masterpiece and never targeted to the mainstream Rolex consumer. Those that know, “know” what the YMII is all about.
It’s truly on another level than the mainstream watches and even if you don’t understand how complicated the movement is, the feel/finish and button push will speak volumes how top shelf the watch is. I have owned about them all and the SS YMII is still considered my “grail” piece in my collection.

I always liked the look of the YM-II, but thought it way too big for my average (7.5") wrist.

You could easily pull it off. I was shocked how well its size wears on my 7-71/4” wrist. It’s a relatively thin elegant watch with its organic case shape wears so much better than a blocky super case. It seriously wears like a 40mm Sub and wears significantly smaller and easier than a DSSD or even a SD43.

I have a GMT II. I had to send it it for a cracked bezel. My wife encouraged me to get another while we waited. I had expressedittle interest in the YMII, until I tried it on. I bought it and love it! It's not for everyone, and that is fine in my book. I sail a lot, so rather happy with my new wrist companion.

It’s big, thick and heavy. I love mine but I don’t wear a lot it because of the weight and I like heavy watches. I am currently wearing a SD43 as my daily for the moment. If you really want to talk about underrated rolexes talk about the SD43.
