Yes today at the NYC Wempe Rolex boutique, all the female sales associates were proudly displaying 36 mm and they were pushing 42 mm on the men.
That said, the one girl looked trendy but out of place with a 36 mm Day Date. She wasn't big enough for it and it didn't even look as if she was making a statement. Just kinda off size on the big side. Go with what works for you. |

Depends on your preferences as well as your size. I'm 5'10", weigh 165 and have 7.25" wrists. I think my 36mm DJ looks fine and feels great to me. I do plan to buy a sport watch eventually but it will be a 40mm at most. I'm on the side that thinks anything > 40mm is too big.

I think the 36mm works for most wrists.

The 36mm works fine for me. I too went for a TT steel & rose gold Datejust as my first Rolex as I love the classic look and the colouring of the gold. I've happily rotated this with a 40mm SS Sub for the last 12 months or so, without any concerns in switching between sizes.

There's 2 young women working at the NYC Boutique wearing 31mm Datejusts! (The SS 904L DJ II are 41 mm and we are selling a lot). We're getting people asking for the new DJ II #116300 with the smooth bezel. It won't be out til Fall. Thanks for your visit, it was nice chatting with you! |

Floater look on the bright side if we were on a breitling forum we would be debating 42mm vs 46mm. I am just happy when I bought my first Rolex it was not a midsize (I am only 5"3), I would really feel under gunned next to the new generation of 42mm CANNONS, I am already questioning my manhood with my puny 36mm.............

The DJII is fine with Jeans and T-shirt. However, as someone who wears suits everyday, I can tell you that the II feels out of place, particularly with french cuffed shirts when I dress for work. I tried to ignore it for awhile and couldn't. In a suit, the 36 mm DJ is perfection! The II is a stunning casual watch though in my humble opinion. The 36 seems a bit more versitle to me, as it also looks great dressed down.

36mm is def too small for a sports watch. But for a dressy datejust, I think it's a perfect size (at least for my 6 3/4" wrists). My Daytona, GMT and Sub are a perfect 40mm and look great on my wrist, but the DJII and DDII at 41mm looks too big for the type of watch they are. 36mm suits that type of watch better I think.

34mm is traditional size man's every day watch.
36mm is large for an every day watch. 40mm is appropriate size for a sports specialty (diving, race car driving) watch. Quote:

I think the shape of the wrist matters more than the size. You can have two people with 7-inch wrists but one can be more oval or flat shaped while the other more round. The one with the oval/flat wrist should be able to pull off a larger watch better due to the increased width of the wrist. When the lug to lug width (top to bottom) is as wide as the width of the wrist it starts too look too big.

A 36mm Datejust is fine for a man, unless you're Hulk Hogan. They make a very classic statement, particularly when worn for business/work.

As always, it depends on the person. A Deepsea or Panerai on somebody who is 5 feet tall with a six inch wrist looks ridiculously large, a 36mm on somebody who's 6'8", 350 lbs. looks small. I'm a human Sasquatch, so for me, a desire to keep it at a minimum of 40mm isn't being trendy. I think 36mm works on a lot of people, just not on me, I'd guess that 40mm on me is similar to 36mm on
an average size guy. And yet, I chose a Sub C over a Deepsea, go figure. :) |

Over the years I've gone from small to large. Currently I wear Omega and my 45mm Planet Ocean some days feels huge. I've recently returned to my 36mm Pre-Aqua Terra and it feels wonderfully balanced and light. It's nice to have options.

36mm is fine for some and not for others, that's why they make different sizes. To each their own.

36mm on a DateJust is the way to go. Keep in mind the dial is actually the same size as the sub, GMT etc. the difference on the sport watches in the bezel is wider. The 36mm wears big for its size too with the reasonably wide lug structure. Very very rare to see a picture posted when it looks too small on anyone. The big watch fad makes 36mm seem small when you hear the size but its actually a really good sized everyday watch that will serve you very well.
