Icon6 It's A 16610...

Was a close debate on getting my first Submariner or the classic SeaDweller...

Tried on the classic SD but it seems to share a close resemblance to the classic Sub and furthermore I already have a Dssd , though having the SD is a good compliment to any collection together with a Dssd. And prices for the SD has increase to a proportion that I am not able to make the purchase...

I was also looking at the classic 5513 after getting poison at the Vintage Rolex Discussion and found a seller with lovely patina 5513 but it comes with a new casing from RSC though the rest, dial and hands are still original. Decided not to go with it.

And than I saw this. Not collectible. Not rare. Not desirable. Millions in numbers. But this one it with a patina that it has develop where not one patina is the same. It's special on its own rights. And price seems within my budget with spare change...

Flat 4 and Flat S...

I beg to differ, my good man! The 16610 is classic Submariner Date. And, is there really such a thing as an undesirable Rolex? I think not, sir!

You and I seem to be evolving in opposite directions - I started with a 40mm 14060 many years ago and am now saving up for a 44mm DSSD.

Contrats!

I left with a 14060 at the start but after wearing it for a couple of minutes, I just can't get pass the uneven polished lungs...shame. It's a nice piece with a lovely patina...

Regarding the Dssd...

Here some to keep the encouragement going...

You will love the Dssd...it's of a different league...

Congrats, what year is it? Love the marker patina...but from your pics, it appears the hands are newer than the dial (patina doesn't appear to be the same). Is that true or just the pictures? Regardless, still a great looking watch. Congrats again.

Thanks...

It's an L serial and warranty paper dated 1990. Not bad for a 24 years old piece...

Yes there is a slight difference between the patina of the dial against the hands and pearl marker, though in real life, its quite close in tone and very subtle...read that the dial patina faster due to the mixture of the dial paint/chemical or something like that...

Wow, nice watch!!! Congratulations. Too bad about the 14060. I love mine so much I had to buy an 114060 to keep it company. There will be a 14060 down the road some day I'm certain.
