Day Date Stella Dial
Hey Guys,
I have a 18038 Day date and want to put a stella dial into the watch. Would this be bad for the value if I ever resold it as it wasn't an original stella dial ? Im currently look at this dial but unsure if its a Genuine stella dial. Any input on this dial is appreciated! http://www.chrono24.com/en/rolex/par...arch/index.htm |

I don't believe the Stella dials were original equipment but more of a dealer installed dial. If you like the dial in your link , then go for it!

You do realize that's just an aftermarket dial, right?

I guess you learn something new every day! I did not know that stella dials were not original.
Thanks for the info. |

I missed that "custom" comment in the ad. Funny thing though, there is an authorized Rolex dealer here in Dallas selling preowned Rolex on one side of their store, not within their Rolex boutique, with aftermarket Stella dials. I asked the manager about it one day and he told me that they have many customers that enjoy the colored, refinished Rolex dials.

There is definitely a market for refinished dials.
There just aren't enough great naked dials to go around. It's borderline impossible to achieve some of the new finishes in the wild. |

there are more than enough dials to supply anyone. There are a few members of this forum that have boatloads of original dials. Post a WTB in the classified section

Refinished custom dials are easily found - the shop in Vietnam makes very good quality, but nonetheless custom and do not add value.
Legitimate original stella dials are difficult to find. Choose the seller carefully - and expect to pay anywhere from $6K and higher. |

Re printed ones abound and most advertised as authentic are the better re prints so be careful. If you do get a re print try to be sure on an authentic Rolex plate as they actually fit the watch. I have done this a few times for fun and taken off after. I have an oxblood to compare print as there are tell tale signs.

If you're on ebay, almost all sellers will say "stella inspired" or custom - otherwise the sale can be easily voided because there is a difference that is obvious in person.
The ones from Vietnam are quite good (I will confess to owning one). I had a leading appraiser (one of the best jewelry stores in Boston) call it lacquer on an appraisal (I had to correct her since I didn't want to pay for $20K worth of insurance). It's a matter of how important it is to you to own a true Stella. |

Stella Dials
I just bought a Rolex 18038 and became aware of Stella dials.
So...thank you for this very informative thread. I. too, am looking at an aftermarket "Stella" dial from the Vietnamese seller. Good to know his dials are well thought of despite being aftermarket. This is the oxblood dial I am thinking of buying. |

Just spent the last 40 minutes looking up Stella dials - at first didn't like oxblood - but damn it grows on you also like the blue. Not sure I'd want one, but they are pretty neat.
