Anyone recommend buying Rolex in Diamond District, New York?

I was shopping for a 16618 and some of these shops offered a lower price than what is found here, or said they could check with their dealer. But I just get an overall sleazy feeling from these shops. Is authenticity a concern with them, even with papers? And I'm curious who their Rolex dealers are, is it possible some are AD's that want to unload old or pre-owned stock?

It's impossible to answer your questions.

Deal with a reputable business and you shouldn't have any issues. Paperwork does not "authenticate" anything.

If you can fake a passable watch, you can fake "paperwork."

Love that place. You can find good deals there if you have some experience, but you must do your homework first.

Then why shop there? Only buying a "deal"?

Buy the seller.

As they say, buy the seller first. Truer words can't be said.

Buy the seller or at least trust them without hesitation

Trust your "feeling."

You will find shark infested waters that I would not try to navigate without having a highly referenced and recommended 1st hand resource.

I second this. I'm sure there are good/reputable dealers there but if you don't know who they are you might be sold something that's not up to snuff. I'm in NYC all the time and trust a few of the trusted sellers here so much more.

I was just in NYC last week, and spent a few hours in the Diamond District on 47th St. Had a blast. I have made a couple of purchases there in the past with satisfaction, and saved a bunch of money. On Thursday, I bought a difficult-to-find Day Date dial from none other than John Buckley; guess that makes it a Buckley dial!

You can see just about every model there, but the pervading sense of sleaziness keeps me from interacting with anyone there.

I've dealt with John Bukley @ Tuscany Rose many times. He taught me a lot about watches when I was just starting out as a WIS. http://tuscanyrose.com/contactus.html. He's very nice and been around a long time. He's a forum member but hasn't been active in quite some time. He deals with vintage Rolex mostly but can put you in touch with reputable people in the district. There are a lot of sharks down there so it's nice finding someone you can trust.

I think the DD is a blast. Combat shopping at its finest. I've never heard of fakes being sold there, but Franken watches are not uncommon- particularly on older models. My biggest gripe is that everything seems over polished.

Has anyone done business with Sky Diamonds in 47th St in New York? They currently have a Rolex that I want, but I don't know much about them. Thanks.

Think of diamond district like TRF marketplace. Some sellers are reputable and others are not. My guess is the reputable dealers will have normal pricing. Being able to haggle face to face might have some benefits but I would not buy a watch in a deal that is too good to be true.

No. Don't be tempted by those "good deals", be patient, and get it from a reputable dealer.

I wouldn’t have any doubts about authenticity but I wouldn’t expect any bargains either. I second Motion in Time, it’s one of the few watch only places and it recently did a remodel/enlargement so must be doing okay. Boris is the owner/principle.

Absolutely not. I had a horrible experience there. I almost lost 20k.

Interesting. Was that online or in-store?

Both. I had met them and then went home to Florida and called them 3 months later. It’s a long story but my CC company saved the day.
