AP 15300 Blue

Morning,

I'm hoping to pickup a blue 15300 in the next 5 weeks, that is used and around 10 years old. Although recently serviced. I love the aesthetic but my only reservation is reliability. I've seen a few threads and murmurings that if you're used to a Rolex's reliability it will just upset you.

Any thoughts on this from some real AP fans and owners?

It's true AP movements have their quirks and tend to need service more often than Rolex but AP service is arguably the best in the business so you will have any issues sorted quickly and for a fair price.

I agree with Tom's assessment. AP's service is top notch.
I am a fan of both brands but an AP15300 blue is a special piece to own . I have several Daytonas in my collection, and I can honestly say I would take the 15300 blue over any of the Daytonas.

Managed to score an unworn one 6 months back, it's in my bank in Paris, will semd it in for service and wear it after, not forgetting the safe key on Odessa would have helped to do faster, but will do it next time I come. Get it it's awesome, so much cooler than ANY Rolex, and I am picking up a Daytona C in a few days, but it's going for the wifey...

I have had my 15300 for a few months, had an issue with the crown and it was a $900 service to fix it. No issue with my other AP's.

If you can afford the watch, you can afford the service. Much like an exotic car.

You can also consider the 15202 if the lack of a second hand doesn't bother you, it does bother me, plus having 3 ultra thin Patek watches I figured it would be nicer to have a watch a little thicker, plus the fact that it's discontinued and that the prices are in constant rise are 2 things I like about it

Of course if you find a good example of 15300 go for it, they are becoming rarer by the day, and are in the 15400 price range, being even more expensive when it comes to blue 15300's

I saw a recent 15300 service invoice (by AP) and cost was $1500... keep that in mind.

That is what I was expecting more or less, of course since mine is new and unworn, there won't be any need to do any polishing or anything of the sort, which is probably something most 15300 going in for service are going through

I have a chrono (26300 blue dial with orange accents) that is covered under warranty. Although it was used, I wore it for less than a week and noticed it would die after a few hours of not wearing the watch. The power reserve continued to dissipate until eventually nothing would make the watch work, even when winding the crown. I sent it in for service and they covered it with no charge out of pocket but keep in mind those types of quirks are more common with AP than Rolex for example. With that being said, its the most beautiful watch I've ever owned (including the 5711 Nautilus) and i wouldn't trade it if i had to. Don't let service fears keep you from owning an AP. The finishing truly is amazing

My Blue Dial 15300 experienced a known issue (date wheel not advancing via quickset) within a few months of ownership. I was the second owner - I think - via a TS. I had a years worth of warranty left. All was covered - and presumably I got a full service during the fix.

First service for my 15300 after 5 yrs, took 12 weeks. At collection today the lady was saying reason it took so long is becos QC-ing.. put on winder and examined at diff angles ... blah blah blah.. Handed watch to me I played with it and noted date changed at 11.56pm. Its going in for another 2 weeks...

But I'm still loving it! just as RolexAviator said its the most beautiful watch. :)
