Explorer II Polar

After receiving my BLNR a couple of weeks ago, I have been searching for an explorer II. I love the BLNR but there is just something about the polar that speaks to me. I purchased the BLNR from my local AD but I think I am going used on the Explorer. I have found one in like new condition with box but no warranty card or tags for $5800. As of right now, I have no intention of ever selling this if I purchase it. Does that sound like a good price or should I search for one with tags and warranty card? Thanks for the input. I have learned so much on this forum.

Welcome aboard, While you mention the EXP II will be a "keeper". Your circumstances may change and it'll more of a challenge to sell it as an 'incomplete' set.
Personally, I'd want the complete set. What's the seller's explanation for no papers?
Search the classifieds here, for a couple of hundred more you can get a complete set.

Congratulations, personally I would be more comfortable with warranty card and tags.

My question, too.

Also, I think this is a good piece to buy from the secondary market...resale is pretty soft.

Suggest not to buy one. Too similar functionality wise. Enjoy your BLNR first and at least wait 6 months and ask yourself again whether you are sure about it.

Pillowy soft resale on EXP 2 compared to huge $8200 retail....

I do think $5800 without papers is too much. Seen crisp, full sets go for that.

I'd pass and go for a more complete watch. if you have to sell it yourself, you will be glad you did..

While new to TRF myself, I have also been trolling this site for well over a year soaking up all the knowledge that I could.

A quick search on only 2 sites has led me to say that that price is high with no B&P. On a vintage Rolex, this might be acceptable, or even unavoidable. In this case, IMHO, I would look around for B&P.

Best of luck!!

Thank you everyone for your input. It's is a 42mm. I will ask the seller about the no warranty and tags.

They are similar but if you feel the call of the white dial, it's impossible to escape!

Personally, I only buy with box and papers.

Yes, while the function are similar my reason to have one is for the white dial while keeping the sporty look. My plan is to put it on an orange band. I am a Tennessee grad and would love to have the color combo for football season.

I just picked up a polar 16550 and it's awesome. The white dial is perfect and a great change to my line up. I really prefer the 40mm size to the newer 42mm but to each his own. You can pick up a 16570 for quite a bit cheaper than the new model as well, closer to 4200-4500. Can't go wrong either way.

Keep shopping around. I picked up mine for $5750 box and papers plus the bracelet had been swapped out for a rubber B strap so it was unworn and brand new.
