16600 Sea-Dweller Service

Hello,
I am looking to hopefully acquire a Tritium 16600 Sea-Dweller in the near future and I had a couple of questions.

1.) Do these have to get sent in to a RSC for a full service due to their depth rating and proper testing of the helium escape valve?

2.) If so, do they force you to switch the Tritium dial/hands at that time for factory service replacements?

3.) If having the Tritium components is important to me as well as having a fully serviced watch; am I better acquiring a Tritium 16610 Sub that can be easily serviced by an independent shop due to having a lower water resistance and no HEV?

I do not want my search to be in vain if I have get it serviced just for them to switch out the dial/hands.

Thanks in advance!!

On any of the Rolex I have ever sent to RSC, they advise they recommend the changes and the cost. I have been able to refuse hands and dial.

Some independents can test the ref. 16600 to depth. Mine can, but I don't care - a 300m test is fine for my uses.

Date disk is one part I have heard them changing without asking.

I had heard that the independents weren't able to get parts (i.e. Sapphire, HEV, etc.) for the Sea-Dweller or DSSD from Rolex, do you know if this is true?

There are many different levels of "independents". My guy could, and did for many many people, service 16600s and tipple sixes. I don't think he could do the DSSD because his pressure tester only went to 4000 feet.

You need to decide if you want to use an RSC or not. If not, there are definitely viable options out there.

Seconded, my local watchmaker also can test to this depth and have an account with Rolex for parts.
