Favorite beaches in New England

Hey guys,

What are your favorite beaches? I live on the shore in New England, but I always go to the beach in my town. I'm looking to try new beaches. Any recommendations?

Also, how come our beaches don't have cabanas, chaise lounges, and service like the beaches in Europe? I would rather not lay on a beach towel.

Old Silver in Falmouth, Cahoon Hollow in Wellfleet on the national sea shore.

I enjoy Corporation Beach in Dennis, on the Cape. Particularly as they have a food stand and picnic bench area, a shower to rinse your feet - and especially because family lives there and I can use their resident parking pass.

Bassetts island in buzzards bay near pocasset. It's not very crowded because you can only get there by boat.

I hear you regarding the lack of 'lidos' in the area. In Europe (Italy in particular) is often tough to find a public, free, beach but here I find the opposite to be annoying. Rant over.

In the Gloucester MA area, Good Harbor and Singing beach are nice but packed during week ends. Wingersheek is nice for kids (shallow water).

Any CT recommendations as we haven't lived here that long to explore the options?

You might have to belong to a private beach club for those amenities. We do, but you pay for it. Here's our club security when the College kids decide they've had enough work for the day..

An idea for you could be the SeaCrest Hotel in North Falmouth, MA (Adjacent to Old Silver Beach). The hotel has beach cabana rentals.

Just about all we got here in glorious CT are Hammonasset and Rocky Neck. Sherwood Island down in Westport/ Norwalk is nice as well. A lot of the more prime beach areas are resident only (read: gold coast). Other than that head up to RI and Misquamicut (sp?).
