Well I do not dislike it as much as you Larry but I must agree with you on something. I don't hate the maxi cases and dials but I do have a preference for the classic older models (I guess my 16013 made me love them but when I look at the older versions of the Submariner and other Rolex references I must say I find them much more beautiful).
Great review by the way, whether one fully agrees with it or not it was very interesting.

This is Rolex history, as you say. Rolex are in the business of making (lots of) money and the historic customer base either no longer exists (at least not in numbers significant to Rolex) or no longer require mechanical tool watches Rolex could not be a successful, growing company if they simply sat back and relied on ever- more outdated product lines. Like it not, they have to move with the times. I love the older models and the history surrounding them, but I would not want to see Rolex becoming a niche manufacturer serving a dwindling number of WIS enthusiasts. This is not to say that they could not produce a more 'historical' line of models, but this seems to be Tudor's area at the moment. Rolex are more forward-looking Just my $0.02

Great point Psmith. Its just sad that they don't keep at least one classic sports watch in the lineup to stay true to their roots. At over 8K for a SS Sub, it's definitely not a tool watch anymore, that's for sure.

Thanks Well it may happen eventually. Watch companies love to plunder their past, and Rolex has a particularly rich & eventful history. Witness the various 'tribute' versions of the Fifty Fathoms that Blancpain are rolling out (a watch with similar history to the Sub) With the success of Tudor 'Heritage' models such as the THC and Black Bay, I would not be surprised if Rolex are considering a piece of that action. Let's hope that they can be both progressive and have strong(er) ties to their impressive past

I hope so Psmith, I hope they come out with some type of "vintage" retro black bay type model in the future.

I personally dislike the 14060 and 114060 very much even though the later shares parts with my watch. If Rolex never made the date model I'd go for the black dial explorer 2. Never the GMT, hate the current bezel.

I just prefer the new ceramics. The weight and feel is so much more substantial. I like my wife's sub ND, not ceramic, but the 2 ceramics we have are really quite exceptional watches. I think there are so many upgrades on the 116613LB compaired to the, still beautiful, bluesy, for example.

I love my 216570 and it's my favorite modern Rolex by a mile. I've owned the Maxi cases and flipped them all. You have to try on the Exp42 at the AD to really appreciate it. -3187 movement is completely in house and mine is +1sec a month. -No ceramic to potentially break -You get a date -You get an extra time zone -Most legible dial rolex has made. Period -42mm case with no Maxi lugs. -IMHO wears more balanced than any of the Maxi cases. Only thing the 114060 has going for it (in comparison) is that it's 200m more WR and the crown is a trip-lock. Although the twinlock on the 216570 is great. What's not to love? |

But if they had fitted the new movement, the price would be $11,000

I don't care for the super case at all.
At 7500 you could get close to buying a pre-owned Sub and a GMT or Exp II. |

Initially I was not a fan of the 'square-ish' case and shared the same feeling as you.
Then I bit the bullet, accepted the fact and pulled the trigger on the SubC with this case. I loved everything else about the SubC I had to own one. And soon after I bought it and donned on my wrist - very soon - by the second day actually - the square-ish case had grown on me and I had fallen in love with it. It wasn't love at first sight, but it is now a love to last. |

I must say I didn't like the 114060 at first but it's one of those that looks better and better every day. And I think about this...
Can't wait to try one on. And I realize this would defeat the purpose but I think the 114060 would look sick with a date window and no cyclops obviously. I kinda like the shape of the new case and way in goes to the bracelet. Looks different from the date Subs a little in its own way. That would be a handsome Sub. |

i am planning to sell my SD to get a SubC ND. But now I think i should get a Exp1-39mm as it looks totally different from my bezel watches.
and i can save some money too! not sure if this is the right choice! lol |

What I Do Not Like About The Sub 114060
Wow I want my 5 minutes back. Sounds like a bunch of middle aged 3rd graders struggling to cope with the fact that they no longer have the latest teenage mutant ninja turtle figurine to show off during recess time.
