Datejust 1601 and 1603 aftermarket dial help
Hello everyone,
I am new to Rolex watches and have a few questions. I want to get my wife a used Datejust and put on an aftermarket mother of pearl dial. I looked at a few lower priced 1601's which had a pie pan type dial. The woman at the store told me these will not accept aftermarket flat dials. Is this true? From the looks of it, this is a vast forum with a ton of good info. I collect older Seiko divers and this is my first time here. Thanks in advance Troy |

Someone will chime in soon. Sorry I can't help but I'm sure your wife will love whatever you get her.

Since you live in south FL have you gone to the Seybold Building in downtown Miami? I am sure they will have the watch you are looking for with the dial you are seeking already installed.
I have purchased quite a few watches there and the selection of stores as well as watches is huge. Also, the prices are favorable since there is so much competition. I advise going to the different levels since the first floor is dominated by larger retail stores while the upstairs gets less movement and negotiating is better. Good Luck in your search!!

Thanks. I did go down to the seybold building to look around I did not venture to the other floors though. I asked around there for watches in the 2300 dollar range and no one had anything. All wanted my number but didn't even receive any calls. I would think I could find a nice example and change the dial but I want to be sure that I can change it on the ones I am looking at.

All Datejust since 1989 with saphire crystals take the flat dials.

DateJusts have had flat dials since 1977 with the introduction of the 3035 movement...

Try Capetown in Roswell Ga. I have purchased multiple watches from them. Speak to Janice, Rose Marcus, or Johathan Marcus .... They should be able to help you without any problems.

A mother of pearl dial would look much better under a scratch free saphfire crystal. That is why I recommended a Datejust made after 1989.
