Day Date 1970 Help
What should the price range be on an 1803 Day Date 1968-1972 in good condition. I have one I'm looking at but I don't know if I'd be overpaying. I need help from this forum. My last post asking about this got deleted and I don't know why. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Generally the question of pricing is against the forum policies which might of got your prior post deleted. Checking on ebay and other sources should get you your answer. Some questions arise as to whether or not it on a bracelet or on a strap and the condition of the watch, etc. All tends to affect price. Head only about 4 to 6K. With bracelet 7 to 10K.

Your last post was deleted because it was basically a want-to-buy ad. There is a Wanting to Buy section here, but you have to be a pledge member to use it. Show a pic of the one you are looking at, and tell us how much the seller is asking.

Sorry about posting in the wrong place before.
This is it. It's a 1969 1803 and sold in May 1970. It's all original dial and hands (they tell me that's good) and it come with original box, papers and books. They want $9500 OTD with a 1 year warranty. It was serviced July 2015. Thanks for any advice. |

Day-Dates are not really my area, but I wonder if that dial hasn't had some work done on it. I'll leave that to someone else to comment on. Any pics of the box and papers, etc?

The lume on the hands looks incredibly intact for a watch of that age, I wonder if it was re-done. But wait for others to chime in, I am hardly an expert by any means.

It looks like it could use some cosmetic care; bezel looks beat, bracelet stretched and dirty. I like the dial and hands a lot. To me the cost seems high, however. I guess the somewhat complete set justifies it.

Day Date 1970 Help
Personally, I'm torn as to whether it has been re-lumed. On one hand, the dots are in the correct spots, and look pretty good (except 6 o'clock is incomplete--if they've been redone, why not do ALL properly?)). On the other, they (and hands) look awfully green in the first/natural light pic. I wonder if/how much they glow.
In any case, overall watch looks pretty good, bracelet looks better than some, more stretched than others. I assume a premium is being added for the papers, so depends if you want to pay "extra" for them vs. a comparable watch without papers. By the way, the wide boy dial and hands are considered by some to be highly collectible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For a 8-10k price tag I would go ahead and get a 18038 or 118238

Another $1k on top of their ask gets you into sapphire crystal and quickset territory, possibly even double quickset. I would pass at that price. If you don't care about the resale (which is ok) or the quickset - with the stretch in the bracelet my gut is its a $6.5k -$8k rig.

In the first pick the 6 o'clock dot looks ok
Probably it's the angle through the plexi Getting the bracelet into condition is gonna cost another 1100 USD + shipping Box and papers is of course nice but with a DD ? If it was a Comex or a DRSD yes without doubt but in this case I wouldn't pay extra for it. Just my .02 Look here on TRF in to FS section Pretty sure you can find better for cheaper ! |

In my opinion, it is more normal not to have hyphens than to have them on a wideboy day date dial Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you all very much. The dealer told me that the lumens had not been redone and are original. As are the hands and the dial.
The main part of my allure to that particular timepiece is the year it was made/sold. That is my birth year. I really want to find a vintage 1970 in excellent condition. It sounds like they are asking way too much for it. It originally was $10,800 and I talked them down to $9500. As far as finding one for sale here I cannot. I would love to buy one from a forum member. Any help finding one for sale anywhere on the earth from that year would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys. |

Just for comparison sake here is my '70 1807 with the same dial - which still glows after strong light exposure, so slight green tint in strong light not unusual. This has the older clasp bracelet, which has been restored by MY.
My opinion on the OP's, nice dial, case a little over-polished, bracelet pretty stretched. The 18xx's are harder to set, but IMHO worth it for the more elegant case and richer gold color. I really favor the wide boy dials, only available on 18xx's, but the OP's is overpriced in that condition. |

If they are asking $9500, that isn't WAY too much...but it is on the higher end. It appears to come with papers, so can easily add between $500- $1000 if that is important to you.
The wide boy dial is great - and I'm guessing it shows really well in good light. |

Speaking with the dealer he is insisting that he is right on the money at $9500. I really wish I could see it in person. I appreciate all the input fellas. Very tough decision.

With that much stretch I'd say overpriced.

For what the watch is, box/papers, a white wide boy dial, original bracelet in decent condition, I think it is priced fair. I've been looking for a nice, vintage 1803 set and you don't get much for $10,000.

Adam, the few I've had did not have hyphens (and they were sigma dials, for whatever that info is worth). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have you done your homework with the bracelet?
At the 12 o'clock, there is a lot space between the bracelet and case.. Don't rush a good thing, if you are willing to pay top dollar for a particular model and year.. |

I completely agree. The thing that is most frustrating is that as I do my research and make phone calls is that most of the places I have called the people are incredibly unbelievably unhelpful. It's as if they don't care. As a person in sales this is something I cannot grasp. I might just give up altogether and continue to buy the new Rolexes from my AD. They have really been wonderful. They take my money with an extreme smile on their face and gratitude.
