Not trying to confuse things, but you should just ask the seller. They should be able to tell you whether it's the domed one if you're not confident from the package markings.

Haha yeah that's the thing

Look at this answer:

I assume the "flat" version is only the sapphire crystal, while this is the old "plastic" crystal............so I don't understand your question.

Anyways, I'd rather wait fir the watch to arrive to see if even a crystal swap is justified or not. If it does good in pressure test I won't bother.

Both crystals are acrylic... one is domed, one is flat.

The reason for changing it from flat/service to domed is aesthetic.

Or you could do like me and have your dad say, "This needs to be serviced and I don't want to pay for that. You want it?"

That's probably the best question a dad can ask his son

Bit by the 1016 bug

OK guys, so it has arrived. I was amazed by the watch at first, but then a few things I noticed.

First the positives:

- untouched tritium dial

- full set, with papers

- all functions seems to be working correctly

Negatives:

- not original bracelet (78400 Tudor)

- replacement hands

- the case might heavily been polished(?)

A few photos, really don't know what to do, shall I send it back to the seller?

What is your advice?

Thanks a lot!

Experts the jury is out, please help me on this one! I really need some useful advice here.

The watch is going strong and the dial looks nice in my opinion but correct me if I'm wrong.

Two things that bother me and I can't see clearly is the replacement hands and the condition of the case.

Let me know if more photos would be needed to judge

In bottom line would you still keep it?

Appreciate your help.

I can sense the buyer's remorse from here. Better make sure the seller has a return policy.

What do you want to know about the replacement hands exactly? Whether or not it is tritium filled or superluminova?

The condition of the case.. Definitely polished. How bad? Depends on what you can accept.

Bracelet.. quite certain it is incorrect. Should be 78360 with endlinks 380.

Let's call it disappointment, not what I thought this would be. But still I love this watch on my wrist.

I just can't decide whether it was a great deal even with such polished case and replaced hands that are luminova as they glow a bit in the dark.

Had it checked, the watchmaker said it could be saved but not much meat left on the lugs. Tritium hands are like impossible to source, gaskets have to be replaced and on top of all this, the movement is as dryas the desert!

Preparing the drop off for tomorrow to UPS.

When purchasing vintage in future.. factor in the service costs where necessary!

So the hunt continues with this candidate.

The seller says: "the watch was serviced a few weeks ago at Nesbits in Seattle at nearly $900, so in perfect mechanical condition and warrantied for 2.5 years for trouble free wearing. Comes on correct C&I rivet bracelet with 1972 date stamp or I can also provide the tight 78360 w/580 end pieces bracelet pictured for the same price (your choice of bracelets). Case is thick, not overly polished down to the lug holes like a lot of these. Edges of case are sharp. Dial and hands match really well, new crystal also installed at service. Receipt and parts replaced included in sale. Only flaw is a super small scuff between the 10 & 11 o'clock markers. Only noticeable under my 10x loupe. It has tritium service dial and hands, replaced by original parts."

Experts what do you think?

I think you'd be happier waiting for a piece without known issues.

Here's a better one

I don't think the hands match very well to be honest.

Is that the scuff on the dial you consider as known issue?

Actually the guy asks almost nothing for this watch... again too good to be true

He wants 3k only!

I've been looking hard for a 1016 as well......that 3k deal sounds too good to be true....and now you have a pretty mint one come your way from WTB ads? I would be weary if I were you.....like people previously suggested, buy the seller.

All down bro! You're moving fast all over the place Keep an eye on hqmilton or some other A++ seller, and buy when the right one comes available.

Yeah thanks. It's all clear now that these are fraudulent attempts.

Just found the same watch photos somewhere else.

That's a stunning watch and R series Too bad it's in the US... it means a whooping 29% custom tax for me in Hungary☹️
