Hypothetical Collection

Like many people on here I often toy with my dream collection. Today I've decided its this

Rolex BLNR
Rolex Daytona YG Oysterflex
AP 15300
Reverso grande ultra thin duo face

What are your opinions on that? Seems pretty perfect to me, only thing missing is a dive watch, but both Rolex can go down pretty far so I figure I'm covered haha.

Iconic pieces, GMT, Chronograph, Variety of bracelets, PM, Brand variety etc etc

Great collection IMO with nice diversity. I would be remiss though to not mention...no SUB!
Lol, I'm a Sub guy what can I say.

Agreed that everybody needs a Sub. I have two - one with date and one without. The one without is a great daily watch.

But then there's that JC Sea Dweller I picked up on Friday afternoon. I've had it all of about 52 hours or so and can't keep from looking at it - as an aside, I don't know what's cooler - the watch or the fact that I took this photo with an iPhone 6s plus. Amazing.

I'd really like a GMT II - don't know whether I want the BLNR or 116710LN. We'll see.

So... that's four. I have a few others that I really like, but the one that would top my collection? 116618LB. One day. :)

I've really tried to like the vintage watches, and have even followed some particular models when they come up for sale. Just can't seem to enjoy them with the same little thrill I get with the modern watches. Guess I haven't found the right one yet, although sooner or later somebody is gonna say that the Presidential day/date I bought in 1998 or so is vintage. I guess my kids can figure all that out when I'm long gone.

Haha, I just felt with the BLNR and in such a small collection it could be left out, but you're right, what an icon. Personally I'd go with a LV c to add colour, but adding a red sub would also round off the collection nicely, adding a vintage piece to the collection.

I have a black bay blue (ETA) absolutely love it. For the price I think its one of the best watches out there. If I was to build a less expensive collection it would 100% be in there.

Black Bay and Omega Moonwatch is one hell of a combo for the money.

Very big collection haha. Obviously you're perfectly happy with Rolex, but I personally would like more brand variety. Great choices though.

Mine would be pretty similar.

- BLNR
- AP 15400 / 15202 or PP 5711 (Would love both APRO and 5711 but too similar for small collection)
- DD40 RG Green dial (In place of the Reverso, certainly not the same style but Reverso wouldn't get much wear for me)
- DaytonaC white dial (In place of oysterflex Daytona)

If we're allowed a 5th I'd probably throw in a No-Date Sub

I currently own the Reverso which is why I put it in there, but the DD is no doubt worthy of being in there. Haven't seen the rose gold green dial in person, from pictures I worry it may look slightly feminine but like I say I'm yet to see it in person

The BLNR is the only one that would make my list. I would go with the Daytona in PM with a bracelet or the SS Daytona either ceramic or steel bezel. Not an AP fan and would replace it with the new Sea-Dweller Red or a DSSD-Blue and the JLC, while nice, would be replaced with another strap watch from either JLC, PP or VC. I would go with a classic round design.

My list:

116520 black dial (have)
Omega Speedmaster (have)
16610LV
Grand Seiko GMT
Cartier Tank CPCP Cintree

That should cover just about every situation. Would like to own a Patek one day, but haven't been able to see many in the wild or visit an AD to check them out, so I don't want to make a judgement or form an opinion based on pictures.

Apart from the platinum daytona, the bracelets daytona don't have ceramic bezel so I'll pass for now. Plus the oysterflex gives a younger look

With regards to the reverso very fair point

I'd go:

39mm Explorer (Mk1)
Patek 5370
New WG Daytona
Zenith El Primero A386

If I had to be more realistic I'd probably swap the Patek for a Platinum Yachtmaster. Funny how that's "more realistic" lol.
