Did you sell your 16613LN Mario?

Interesting post above - one is an icon, one is a fad. I'm beginning to come round to that way of thinking on the BLNR. It just doesn't do it for me in the metal, although looks good in pics.

So if forced, I'd have to say 116613LB if you have to have just one. I suspect it will feel more special on your wrist than the BLNR. It is, after all, as said, an icon.

I have just the one Rolex too (my 116613LN - although that may change tomorrow with a bit of luck!) and although I wear it more often than not, I rotate it with my apple watch and a $200 Seiko automatic diver for a bit of variety.

Other things to consider:

No one really "needs" a GMT function. Your smartphone will do that better.

The BLNR will sell for a greater % of what you paid for it due to its popularity. If Rolex eventually bring out Coke C GMT that may well change, whereas the 116613LB will be less likely to be influenced by current trends.

You simply must keep both.

This is a tough one. I am a huge fan of both. If push came to shove, my choice would be the BLNR for the following reasons:

1. GMT function. This adds a little more versatility to the watch
2. Comfort. For some reason, GMT's feel more comfortable than Sub's.

However, the blue sunburst dial is simply amazing and the combination of steel, gold and blue is pretty much near perfect.

This is a really great question because neither are as versatile as a subc date LN, explorer 1, daytonac or DJ. Easily for me the answer is the bluesy though. I like the BLNR but it's never grabbed my attention to the extent of fellow TRF'ers. There quite a few models that I'd rather have than the BLNR (non-PM models!). The bluesy is a great Rolex because it captures 2 things, as well as something of its own: it's THE classic Rolex model (sub) we a touch of YG and a blue dial and bezel that speaks so much to the prestige of a Rolex. And then of course the bluesy has become quite a legend on it's own in that past couple decades.

So I definitely think that the bluesy wins against the BLNR, but as I've said in other threads the subc date (116610LN) is the ultimate one-piece collection for everyday wear and versatility. It is the icon of horology and unequivocal winner against all other models.

Mario,
Which watch do you have more history with??

I can tell you this: From your posts so far, I look at your username and I think 'bluesy fan'. This is what I associate your username with. BLUESY!

BLNR is beautiful, newer, but you don't want to sell the bluesy, especially that you have history with it.

Funny coincidence, a couple of days ago I was searching for videos on 16613LB on youtube while having lunch at my desk, and by total coincidence I came across this video of this 'Archie' guy - pretty funny and foul language abound. While it gave me a laugh, it also gave me a very good appreciation of what I have on my hand and the history that I share with it.

(I can tell you that on couple of occasions I have been tempted to change my bluesy to a newer model, mostly due to the adjustable bracelet and the white date wheel - better visibility than the 16613LB vintage looking date wheel).

Here, watch this in its entirety and see how you feel about bluesy.

Ok, I might not have been clear...

If one---> Black Sub

If 2...

Then both, the BLNR and Blusey

Regardless, which one you get rid of, it will haunt you...

I had a 116613LB for 6 months but SOLD it to get my BLNR.

No regrets.

I find it more comfortable as it sits lower and the Easylink is simply not as bulky as the Glidelock. Also I use the bezel more as it turns both ways fast. GMT function is perfect too.

If I had to have one single Rolex then BLNR is the one.

The dial on the Bluesy is simply mesmerising though so I am glad I took plenty of pics of it when I had it.

TT Blue Sub for me. I love wearing this watch. It is stunning. It is the one watch that will get compliments even when I put it on an Everest Blue rubber strap.

And, I am in total agreement with you, my friend. In my own personal experience, and, having visited numerous AD's in many local, national and international settings, I must say that I have found that the authorized dealers themselves, highly revere and esteem the Submariner and view it upon a very unique pedestal. To be sure, this exquisite model is so highly recognized for its precision in design, form, function and technology. In fact, the Submariner has been so intelligently and pivotally marketed that the Submariner model, itself, has cleaved quite an indelible mark socioculturally in horology and globally across social media over time, as one of the worlds most coveted watches. Here are several useful and informative links that offer food for thought regarding this eternally interesting and very enjoyable topic for any Rolex Submariner enthusiast and avid follower. Enjoy!

But personal preference? Flip both and put in cash to get pm.
