Torn between Ex2 Polar (white) and DJ2 for next purchase

I own a 42mm Explorer 2 with black dial. I also have a blue dial fluted bezel DJ2.

If I were going white dial then I would by the DJ2. The black painted hands of the Polar Explorer just don't do it for me.

Whichever you chose, you're onto a winner regardless.

I'm wearing the polar explorer 11 as I feel its more casual, the DJ 11, was my first Rolex, feels more dressy, with your other watches, I'd say DJ11, you won't be disappointed with either.

Hi all.

Just got back from Rolex to try both on.

I tried on the new DJ and the brushed center links really threw me off. The watch felt too dressy and I question weather I can wear it casually (jeans, t-shirt). I'm a 32 year old and wonder if this is a watch I should purchase later in life.

The explorer 2 was very nice. I liked it a lot, it seems like it is more of a casual watch. I liked the wrist presence.

Could you use a sub as the more formal watch?

I use my SubC date as my formal/work watch (I work in an office in business attire). As soon as I get home I slap on the trusty Explorer II Polar 16570. It's extremely comfort and one heck of a sweet watch.

I think it's the perfect one-two punch.

My vote goes for the DJ II. White version. Smooth bezel.

I'd go with the DJ2 or 41 but it seems you already got the Exp2 in your crosshair. Fine watch but yet another sports watch in your collection. MHO of course.

Case is smaller in the DJ41, baton markers are also smaller.

I vote for the Datejust 41 for the better proportions (IMO of course, the DJ II is still a sweet watch) and like others said if you go oyster with smooth bezel it can be dressed up or down. The Datejust is still considered a sports watch

Thanks all for the input. I decided on going DJII. I prefer the thicker markers then what i saw on the DJ41.

Im sure the explorer will appear in my collection after, for now I'll go with a Pepsi Stenhart as my travel GMT.

Now to find a good reference for a good price on a DJII.

I have an Exp2 and my brother a fluted blue DJ2. They are both great in their own ways. I personally prefer the explorer because it us under the radar and has a more rugged feel. The DJ2 definitely a bit flashier but a very handsome watch. I dont think you can go wrong and believe that you are right to pick a white faced watch given what you already have. Your collection has room for both, however right now you lack a dressy watch for work/special occasions. The sub can do it all, if your better leaving it for casual Friday/ actual adventures. The datejust of any 6digit vintage will be a great everyday piece.

Buy preowned, as they don't seem to retain value as the sports lines do.

I found a BNIB datejust 2 for 5400. I wonder if thats a good deal and if DJ2 will be harder to find.

Get a DJ41. It will compliment the rest of your collection better and I also think it looks better than an ExpII.

The Sub really isn't close to a dressy watch, nor is the Exp II. They're both truly sports watches. Wear the sub as such and pick-up the DJ for the more formal occaisions.

The ExpII White Dial would be my choice. I have one and it's probably my favourite watch. It's a great everyday piece.
