There are no ref 16600 with the rehaut engraving. Very cool watch.

The complete set. The original Polizia di Stato Sommozzatori patch is arriving from the same source as well as the t-shirt.

Interesting piece.

How do this work with Rolex not allowing the divers to selll them on the open market? Does that mean the serial numbers have to be always hidden? Could rolex technically take the watch back?

Like someone already wrote, the accords to never commercialise the watch were broken the moment the first examples hit the market.
For this reason Rolex will NEVER agree to do a special limited production with logo on the dial EVER again. I don't think Rolex could take the watch back as the watches were owned and paid for by the divers themselves albeit the government subsidised or participated in the purchase, but they will never produce anything like this in the future again.

The same thing happened with models made for the British 22 Special Air Service Regiment. The factory made specially engraved case backs and also engraved the side of the case of Exploerer II's chosen by the regiment. Not long after they were delivered a few hit the market and as a result a second batch for the reserve 23 (reserve) SAS regiment was cancelled using the last batch of 5 digit no date subs. Thus only 9 were delivered and the rest were cancelled by Rolex. I think these, along with the Octopus, and the Royal Navy Clearance Divers DSSD, and SRR subs were the last real 'limited' edition Rolexes made by the factory. The Octopus being the last with a unique insignia on the dial itself.

Very interesting! Do you know in which year were these SAS limited Editions Explorer II produced?
