Daytona question

Hey Guys,

Newb here (kinda), so please excuse this question if it's been answered here already. I've already read the Daytona thread but can't find my exact answer.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a SS Daytona with a white dial with the Rolex movement rather than the Zenith. Also the stainless bezel rather than the ceramic. What exact model is it that I'm looking for? I've so far gathered 116520 (or 1165200). Also what is the Z model compared to others, just the year it was made? Would a Z model meet the requirements I'm looking for?

Also, what is a reasonable price for this on the preowned market?

A 116520 is what you are looking for and they are crazy money right now due to the release of the ceramic version. I have seen them in the mid 11's with the new one coming in at $12400 msrp. I almost paid 11k for a complete set in the spring and opted to wait a new one out for msrp. I thought 11k was crazy so it is however bad you want one.

Someone on here has one for sale for $10,350 which I think is very reasonable. It's a Z model which I believe has the entire Rolex movement (4130).
Now just to ask the seller a few questions pull the trigger lol

The only thing to watch for is that the early 116520's have a diff clasp than the later versions. The clasp is smaller and snaps differently. The later versions also have "fat" hands that are thicker and maybe a bit easier to see.

Prices will range anywhere from the mid $9's to over the list price of $12,4K.
I have seen some over list, which I think is nuts to pay.
I just picked up a Z serial, 116520 with the white dial, and love the feel of the bracelet. It has the quarter-link for those sweaty days.
The Z has a newer link, but not the newest version. I has fat hands. It does not have the "inner Bezel with RRR and the serial number on it, that is later models. But the D, Z serials have the latest movement (4130, I think).

116520 is the one you want and get one while you can between 9-13k.
Prices are going up. MSRP was $12,000US bluenoume was on the G Series and Randoms, green Blume before that. The most recent clasps without exposed rivets/pins on the safety release hinge is what you want to hook for.

It is indeed a 116520 with the 4130 movement however there were subtle 'upgrades' over time. For Eva or a better bracelet, a blue parachrom hairspring, blue lime instead of green and fatter hour and minute hands.

I bought one of these last year, and I got the slightly older 116520 with no rehaut engraving and the skinny hands. I could never see what the time was. At resale time, that hurt me a bit because the rehaut engraving is a desirable addition, at least as far as I was told. I agree that prices are all over the place, but I looked this morning just for grins, and a lot of those "for sale" have been languishing for a while.

I would shoot for 10-11K, but make sure that it's what you want as far as hands, rehaut, clasp, warranty card, etc. Servicing a Daytona is a bit more expensive than a sub.
