Most Rolex tool watches are good for recreational diving, I have even dove with my older gold president down to 80' with no problems. Did have a problem with a 1980's vintage GMT leaking water in a jacuzzi. Probably my fault, only serviced once in 20 years.

I think some of us who own the SD43 are more passionate about it but I don't think you need to be so negative about a reference that you clearly don't like.

We all have different preferences (and thank god we're all different ). Its what makes Rolex such a great brand ... they have something for everyone.

I'm sure we'll hear ALL about how wonderful your Sky Dweller is when you finally get it and I for one will be cheering for you

Very few people would dive with such an expensive watch. There is so much metal when diving which could really chew off the finish on the watch in a hurry. Top dive watches in actual use are probably very inexpensive.

When you go diving with the SD43, it doesn't get wet. Instead, the water gets SD43.

It depends on your criteria for a great dive watch. For me, I am waiting to purchase it. Is it a better value than the Sub-C ND, probably not. Is it better than my Seiko Turtle, no. But I want it and will see.

I think you (or at least I) need to see at least 2 decades of service before any dive watch has enough real world service and track record before it even gets considered as a top tier dive watch contender. It takes time to become a legend. The SD43 has the chops to do this but it needs to put in the time to create a real world track record.

Or one thread here with a catastrophic failure in engineering or if someone touches it at an AD with no gloves... 20yrs is a bit much when some only keep watches for 20 months -- or days.

2 decades of general public service. Somewhere in that time frame it will be used and abused as a dive watch.

SD43 seems nice, nothing legendary or rare.

Well I do dive, but don't play golf. My SD43 will be going to Hawaii soon and will go diving. I love dive watches and have owned a lot of them, this one is up there on the list of better ones. I take good care of my watches but I am never afraid to use them for what they were made for. I look forward to taking this one diving because of the size, I'm anxious to see how it performs and how well I can see it underwater. I will post pictures of it in the ocean.
I do believe this watch will become the choice of professional divers. Rolex didn't seem to miss anything with this one.

Hi Art, I'd be very interested in knowing your first impressions in the water being used as the tool watch it is. Your testimony would certainly be valuable. Looking forward to seeing your pictures.
