Based on these pics it seems the majority of folks leave the 24 hour hand on their local time. An interesting observation.

I think home time is more intuitive to most people because they are familiar with the time changes to other zones in relation to their home time. Also, for most keeping track of the time back home when traveling is the normal first use of the TZ feature and this is a little more convenient if the 24 hour hand is already set to it. Just set the dial to local time when you arrive somewhere and your done. No need to do anything else like know the difference between home time and UTC and turn the bezel.

Obviously owners who are very familiar with world times in relation to UTC because of their occupation or hobbies might be more inclined to set it to UTC. And I don't know for sure but would suspect that those living in close proximity to UTC are more familiar with the offsets between UTC and themselves or neighboring countries, so they might also choose UTC as the default for the 24 hour hand.

Whatever works for you is the correct way to use the watch. That's what's so great about the GMT, it's really a versatile TZ tool that almost anyone can adapt to their needs.

Fantastic Thread, watch porn with a couple hairy arms thrown in! :)

Looking to pick up a 116710 and chewing over new vs mint used. I am sure there are threads regarding this so I wont bother asking.

Listen up, people. I'm only going to say this one more time. It's a GMT watch. Set the GMT hand to GMT time.

Now, was that so hard?

Just kidding. In reality, I think it's groovy that everyone is doing their own thing and having such a good time enjoying their watches.

Since I fly for a living, mine is set to Greenwich Mean Time. It makes it easy for filing flight plans and such. Sure do love that feature.

Main dial always on home time and 24-hour hand to UTC. On arrival in a non-home time zone, turn the bezel to indicate local time. Easy-peasy.

From Rolex Website:

Function of the GMT-Master II
24-HOUR DISPLAY
AND INDEPENDENT
HOUR HAND
In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the GMTMaster
II features an arrow-tipped hand, which circles the dial once every
24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel. The
distinctively coloured 24-hour hand displays the “home” reference time in
a first time zone which can be read on the graduations on the bezel.
The traveller’s local time is easily set by “jumping” from hour to hour,
thanks to an ingenious mechanism operated via the winding crown: the
hour hand can be adjusted forwards or backwards independently of the
minute and seconds hands. This allows travellers to adapt to their new
time zone without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

Can someone either tell me or link me to a thread that tells me how to set my 16760? Somehow my GMT is a hour off from my regular hour hand and it is annoying. I just got the watch a few months ago and have never set it myself.
I'm really not as much of an idiot as I sound here lol.

Pretty sure that reference has the 3185 and you can adjust the 24 hour hand with the crown pulled out to the 3rd/last position. Just rotate the min hand until the 24 hour hand is in the desired position and the minute hand is set correctly. Check out YouTube for some good visual instructions.

It has the 3085 movement.

Sorry about that. Google says the difference there is setting the hour hand is done counter clockwise. The minute hand and 24 hour hand operate the same as the 3185.

No. Lots of speculation that one may be announced at Basel in March. Let me stress "speculation". For Blue/Red bezel you have to get the WG GMT.
