The first watch I bought for myself in 1981 when I was 13 and was getting my C-card. Dove with it many times. Saved for a while to get it. I can't remember if it was $175 or $275. My brother-in-law went with me to make a deal. It started a very expensive habit.

Pic was fine when I added it. ??

Can't say I still wear it. This is an old photo from a few years ago when I found it in a box. Bought a new rubber OEM strap for it. I wanted to pass it on to my son but he doesn't like material straps so he's sporting a Tudor BB41 that he got for HS graduation.

It's not going anywhere though. Sentimental value...

I can relate to your story.
Pretty amazing to think of it.

My parents gifted this one for me around the same time period. Can't remember exactly, but it was my first real watch. Wore it daily and through my adventures.

Mine is the 6309-7040. I think same watch? but just has the kanji days in it.

Serviced a few times over the years and just recently added a Seiko NATO strap.
I still wear mine once in a while and miraculously keeps really good time.
Only annoying thing is not being able to hand wind it

That's really weird. 6309 are not supposed to have kanji daywheel as they were made only to be sold outside of Japan. The JDM are 6306, which have only the kanji daywheel and a hacking movement.

6309-7049 were meant for the US market only whilst 6309-7040 for every other country but US and Japan.
