Very cool. The new 2008 'Busa is improved over previous years and, according to Cycle World, once again the fastest, even over the Kawasaki ZX-14.

I went to the Brisbane Motor show on the weekend, and my pick of all the bikes was the new busa. I'll take the blue with gold wheels please . I can't believe they made a great bike even better . I just love how competative the Japs are, not to mention bang for buck.

Rob.

I had one in 2002.... they are all limited at 186mph, so its a futile battle to look for the speed. Its good for highway cruises, too heavy for a trackday.

Here's my current ride 07 Ducati 1098s:

Bikes I "went thru" in the last year (12 mos):

Too many bikes, too little time.

Congrats!
That's a great bike.
However, just like somebody else had said, all the bikes built AFTER January 2000 are limited to 186 mph. And that's fast enough.

The only sport bike to exceed 200 mph in stock form was the 1999 Hayabusa, or the 2000 Hayabusa IF and ONLY IF it was built in 1999. Easy to spot by the 220 mph speedo. All the ones built after Jan 2000 have a 180 mph speedometer.

Suzuki made it pretty difficult to get the bike back to 200 mph form in order to avoid legal problems and government involvement. About 80% of the original Busas were destroyed and their owners hurt or killed within hours, weeks or months of purchase.

The easiest way to get the newer Busas to about 192... 195 mph would be to install something called a TRE, or Timing Retard Eliminator. That gizmo fools the computer into thinking that it is in a different gear and different MPH, and that allows for a bit more mph at the top end in sixth. It also removes the rpm limitations in first, second and sixth gear. You should be able to get one of those for about 200 dollars.

Anyhow... the Busa is a great bike and I hope that it will serve him well.

200 mph on a bike on the street? Man, I must be getting old. Tell your dad to have fun and be safe.
