Fair or stupid trade?

So here’s what I did, I traded my 2014 BLNR picked up new for a BNIB datejust 41 steel fluted bezel. And I already miss my BLNR.

I can still reverse the deal but I only have two days to make a decision.

A bit of a background, I’m in a suit 5 times a week and the BLNR used to be my dress piece. I have a sub for casual days and I think I wore it with the suit on several occasions. I wanted something dressier and I was eyeing the datejust II as my first Rolex but it was too big on my 6.5 inch wrist and I thought the DJ36 was nice but I was in my late twenties so I thought I’d get it when I’m a bit older and wiser.

As soon as the DJ41 was announced in two tone I was smitten by the way it wore and thought that if Rolex releases it in steel it would be the one, and I jumped on it as soon as I got my hands on one.

What do you guys think? I can’t keep both but I can choose only 2 out of the 3; BLNR, sub no date and DJ41.

I tried posting pictures but for some reason I can’t do it on Tapatalk but will do as soon as I have access to my laptop.

Alex

Tough one, if it was a Sub Date, I'd say that and the DJ41, being a no date gives me some pause.

Stick dial DJ41? What color face?

Well...how are you liking the DJ? Hard for us to say when we don't know how you feel about all of the watches involved.

I personally don't like the ceramic GMTs, so I'd opt for the SS DJ41 and the Sub as my pair.

Out of curiosity, what bracelet and dial are on the DJ?

I'm a suit 5-6x a week and I wear my BLNR with it. When I had my DJ36 I split it between the two. I'd keep the BLNR just cause I like it more

This would’ve been so much easier if I could post pictures, I picked the blue dial fluted DJ41 with jubilee bracelet and I think it looks absolutely gorgeous.

I wore my BLNR almost daily for the last 3 years, I love it but I thought a blue DJ could take its place in the rotation and I won’t wear it as much.

Also I absolutely love the sub but I’m torn because it’s easy to pick up the sub again but it might be difficult to source another BLNR if I feel like adding it to the collection later into the future.

I’m worried that the BLNR would be discontinued next March and then man would I regret letting it go!

Am I making sense or do I sound like a complete emotional fool

Keep the DJ41 because the BLNR is nowhere near a dress watch IHMO and you have the Submariner for non-dress situations.

Historically trading a dress watch for a sports watch in the rolex world has resulted in many sleepless nights and lots of pain. My mantra, never trade a dress watch for a sports watch. Go look how a 1970 1680 red is trading compared to a 1970 1601.............i get it...it is a 41mm dj.....still a dress watch. Sports watches are the way to go.....historically and currently.

I like DJ41 a lot. But I love the BLNR. I personally wouldn't do the trade. I would add much rather get a DJ41 later. Is it an even trade? BLNR sells for more, right?

If you're that worried about getting another BLNR, and it sounds like you love it, I think you will end up regretting this trade.

Keep the BLNR would be my vote.

I’d prefer the blnr. Sounds like you would as well. I’ve never regretted a flip immediately. Sounds like you made an error.

Sounds like you’re already regretting it. Get your BLNR back and save up for the DJ for another time

I think you already know you miss the blnr so cancel. That will give you time to decide if you just want to add a DJ to your collection.

The list price for the DJ41 is higher.
- BNLR € 8250
- DJ41 126334 with jubilee € 8750

MSRP is higher on a DJ41 steel with fluted bezel ($9450 vs. $8950), but through trusted sellers and even ADs you can usually get the DJ41 for mid-$8k. So given that the BLNR is preowned and 2014, it seems like a relatively fair trade.

But, you can get larger discount with Datejust. BLNR, little to no discount.
I say get your watch back and save money for the DJ.

I would keep both the BLNR and DJ41 and get rid of the no date sub. You can dress the DJ up or down and the BLNR is a unique and beautiful sports watch. You can always pick up a gently used sub at a later date. Although the proportions of the no date are nice, I like the date function.

Sounds like you were getting over the BLNR but in its absence you miss it. I would get it back and reevaluate my position

Your reasoning is sound, altho Sub might not be so easy to get next year as Rolex are a law unto themselves at present, but I'd hold DJ and BLNR now.

Your post doesn't make sense....you are contradicting yourself. I think you meant to say, "never trade a sports watch for a dress watch". Considering it's your mantra, I figure you probably want to say it right.

I agree the Batman is not a dress watch and Sub is sort of close to a dress watch. A 41 TT DJ is a nice choice over the steel bezel. Take a look at the link, if it comes through, and see what you think...IF it is not too late to reverse deal...

Really no reason to believe the BLNR will be discontinued given its popularity, imho. If Rolex came out with a SS Coke in ceramic I'm pretty certain the BLNR value would drop and you could get one cheaper. On the other hand, the DJ41 is new and currently a hot watch. DJs on the other hand don't seem to hold their value in the long run. It really is your call. The only thing I can add is if it were me I'd prefer toe wear the DJ41 as I'm not a BLNR fan.

The OP didn't get a steel bezel. He got the white gold bezel, which is beautiful.

I am not sure there is anything I would trade my BLNR for except maybe the BLRO with cash of course.

Not a DJ fan at all and wear my BLNR with suits just fine

Keep the one that you like most in spite of the value. I'm not a fan of the sport watches (except for the Platona) and certainly don't get the hype (and inflated prices) associated with SS models. My daily is a DD because that's what I enjoy regardless of how the market values it. Wear what you love and stop trying to time the market.

Thank you all for your insights. I agree with almost all posts here. BLNR is a watch I love very much and I can’t get over how Beautiful and dressy the DJ41 on jubilee is, specially with the fluted bezel.

I think I will consider flipping the sub simply because it’s relatively easy to get where I am at least, and there’s and abundance of subs in the secondary market, I will miss the glide lock but I’m certain that I will get it later on.

The DJ41 is easy to find but not with the combination I got, I could pick any of the other combinations and I would’ve been able to source one easily, I tried the dark rhodium but it didn’t do much for me.

Nothing better than this forum to discuss what others think is a silly problem but it’s a dilemma that I lose sleep over.. go figure

I have a couple of days to think it over so keep the opinions coming. FWIW I’m not thinking about investment value in all my acquisitions, only how hard and how much more money I will have to shed to replace one in the future.
