Audemars Piguet RO 14790 or Patek Aquanaut 5066?
I owned a Royal Oak 14790ST white dial. I’ve been in love with it since the first time I bought it and I wear it everyday till now. I think it is an awesome piece historically and appearance-wise. I just kept on being mesmerized everytime I looked at the watch on my wrist.
However, long before I purchased the RO, I already had my eyes on PP aquanaut, but the price at that time is too high for me (you can call it my dream watch). Besides, it’s hard to get the model I want, which is 5066, around my area (with good conditions of course). Now, I spotted an Aquanaut 5066A in my local grey dealer with a reasonable price and good condition. Little background: I like collecting watches that’s semi-vintage but got a modern touch, around 2000-2005 watch would be perfect. So I know in another thread there’s a comparison between RO 15400 or 15500 with Aquanaut 5167, but I am more interested in these 2 particular models: RO 14790 vs Aquanaut 5066, which are both midsize watch from 2000s. I also have a small wrist (6 inch), so I prefer midsize watch (34-38mm). The diameter of RO is 36.5 mm and the aquanaut is 36 mm, while the thickness of RO is around 8 mm and aquanaut is around 9 mm, so both perfecty fits my small wrist. Lets play a game: My question is If you have to choose one, would it be RO 14790ST or Aquanaut 5066A? If you’re me and you have to sell the RO to get the aquanaut, will you do it? (Lets say your budget only allows you to own 1) Let’s see your opinion on this, since I love seeing other people’s perspective! Some shots of the RO I took today: Haven’t had the opportunity to try the Aquanaut. But here’s a pic: |

Brutal question - my head already hurts thinking about it. You took « Get Both! » off the table as an answer, so we’re left with a Sophie’s Choice decision . . .
Here goes: * I would pick Patek over AP as a brand, so that’s one for the Aquanaut. * I would pick bracelet over strap, so that’s one for the Royal Oak. * I do not sell my watches ever, I keep them even if they are not in a regular rotation. So that’s one for keeping the Royal Oak. * I like the black dial and the white dials equally, so that’s a tie for me. That’s 2 for the AP, 1 for the Patek, and a tie. So for me, I stick with the Royal Oak, which is AMAZING (how dare you consider selling it, it’s perfect!) and looks fantastic on your wrist! That said: get both!!! |

Both are equally good but since you already have RO, I would keep RO.
RO can be dress or casual watch and looks more elegant, Aquanaut is casual watch and very comfortable. I have 2-14790, one is TT and another one is YG, I love them all.

Hahaha thanks for sharing your thoughts! Of course I also want to own both if I could Agree that both watches are amazing. Patek’s surely have more prestige as a brand, but for the bracelet, nobody can beat ROs.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
