Any sports card/memorabilia collectors out there?

I’ve been spending a lot on watches lately instead of vintage sports cards. Who else collects?

Keep looking for a Hulk but I also need a 52 Topps Mantle to complete my Mantle collection. Should be able to find a nice PSA 1 or 1.5 for around $10-12k!

I use to be, specifically football cards of late 90’s/early 2000’s. Best decision I made in the hobby was acquiring a BGS-graded Tom Brady Playoff Contenders autographed rookie card shortly after his first Super Bowl victory.

Growing up in the late 90s I was obsessed. Foolishly sold all 10000 of my cards at a garage sale

Still have a mickey mantle signed ball that looks great in my office

I just started collecting cards again. I got some yankees and basketball players from the 90's. Looking for a Jordan Fleer rookie card, and I might get a 8.0 grade this Friday.

I have a reasonably extensive Mantle collection. Most are PSA 6 ( a 4 or 5 as well). Haven't added anything to it recently but will probably resume at some point

Big time in the 70's & 80's. They were worth more then than they are now.

Anyone know if it's a bad time to buy a Jordan Fleer '86 Rookie?

Yeah, I have a large collection of signed memorabilia from just about everyone imaginable. I used to really be into cards when I was a kid but they are so mass-produced now that it took the fun out of it for me. I do buy some of the older cards that I loved as a kid due to nostalgia (I'm 39) but nothing since 2001 or so. I think grading ruined it, too.....because now instead of the person on the card it's about what the card is graded at. A card that was mint used to be mint. Now, it's not. It's all a big money grab.

If you looked at a Beckett in like...2000......the first 10 pages of the price guide would cover every card from 1945-1999. Then it seemed like the next 20 pages of the price guide would only get you through half of the 2000 year cards. I bet it's the size of the bible now. I just watched a great documentary on this on Amazon....Jack of all Trades.....about how Upper Deck lied about how rare the 89 Upper Deck Griffey was......when in reality there were printing tons of sheets of just that card after it became worth a lot. Was an informative documentary.

I remember collecting NBA Hoops, Fleer, Skybox and Upper Deck NBA cards during the Jordan years when the Bulls were winning. Good luck! I don't know the current state of the sports memorabilia market but I reckon Jordan's Fleer rookie card won't go out of fashion

Yeah, the Jordan card seems to be highly coveted.

I thought in general other than very special cards and signed balls that the bottom fell out of that market long ago.

I do have a Yogi Berra signed ball and document but know it's probably not worth more than $100 or $200 and never will be.

I got into it way back when and collected every Topps/Fleer/Donruss/Upper Deck baseball set from 1980 to 1992. Then lost interest with the strike of '92. They are all in boxes in my basement. I should really try to sell them. I imagine some of the rookie cards from the mini Update sets have some value.

I really enjoy picking up signed photos.

But I’ve only got very few. A couple of Stan Lee. One Sylvester Stallone and Indiana Jones and a few original Star Wars.

Are my Nolan Ryan rookie cards still worth anything? They’re in the safe deposit box. I haven’t looked at them in years.

^^^Indeed they are. I have B/S/T sportscards and autographs since '88...….that is my wheelhouse. Made a nice profit on Aaron Judge rookies and got me a Yachtmaster two years ago.

If you are still in the market they run about $15K now for a PSA 1.5….

Magic cards, a while ago. I had about 50 or 60 dual lands as I was into playsets back then. Only had 2 Mox, but had plenty of others from the Tempest and Urza Blocks.

Then got into headphones and bought a Sony R10.

I have five. I think they were worth around $1200 to $2000 each when I locked them up at the bank. It looks like they may have slipped a bit, but probably worth keeping a few more years. I bought them for about a nickel when I was a kid. They still smell like gum (makes you wonder what was in the gum).

I can still smell that gum in my mind. Simpler times.

I have tons of these from the 60’s and 70’s but have no idea how you would ever sell them. Anyone have good connections?

I'm learning about replica graded cards now. Just like rolexes, there are graded cards out there that are replicated as well with serial numbers stolen.

Many years ago I worked for an MLB team and have some memories I'll cherish for a lifetime!

I counted 36 in there

Roberto Alomar autographed bat that was part of an end of the season gift package from the team

I became friends with his cousin because of Rolex watches

Curtis Granderson and Gregg Zaun signed balls

The Yankees players and staff were always the nicest

So many fond memories of the time spent there and luckily I've got all of these free items to remember it by. I've never purchased memorabilia but totally understand why people do!

Nice pics, Rommel. I watched the Jays play a pre season game against the Braves in Orlando this past spring. One can get very up close at those games. Go some nice vids and pics.

Thanks, Art Ah yes, Florida is the place to be in the spring. I've never been but heard a lot of great things from folks that live there like you or went down to escape the cold and watch baseball.

In my opinion not much else compares to the feeling of being at a ballpark on a lovely evening.

Got a bunch of cards lately, the vintage cards were very appealing. I met a lot of cool folks buying and selling cards. As far as the online community, overall it's been a bad experience where everyone thinks they are some detective easily calling someone a scammer where I had to defend myself numerous amounts of times where I just stopped participating. I was new to the hobby, and being on the safe side I covered the serial numbers on the graded cards, the same way we cover the serial numbers on watches. Well because of that, everyone kept calling me a scammer, and the amount of repeated arguments just wasn't worth it anymore. Going to focus on watches more instead.
