Quartz Beater / Travel Watch <$1000?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a low-key, quartz movement watch (analog or analog-digital) to accompany me to places where I wouldn't want to wear a Rolex. My current collection consists of a 16570 Polar, 16600 SD, and Grand Seiko Snowflake, so looking for something that fits:
  • Black dial
  • <40mm preferably, or <50mm lug-to-lug
  • I'm thinking quartz as I won't wear this often, and want to avoid keeping it all wound up
  • ~100M water resistance
  • Bonus points for: Chronograph, dual time function

Thoughts guys? What kind of non-Rolex beaters do you run with?

Tag F1 Calibre 5. Can be had for under 1000, automatic, and works well with different strap options. I love mine

I have found out that my older quartz watches that are just sitting around, lose their battery power more frequently. Not sure if this is just my luck or if this is generally true.

I would keep with an automatic watch for that purpose. Anytime you pick it up, you are guaranteed it will work (after a quick winding and setting.)

Anyway,
I have seem some nice Longines watches like Conquest (both quartz and automatic) that are great and can be found easily for under $1k.

Also Hamilton has some very good chronograph options with well respected ETA Valjoux movement for that price range.

(Look at me, talking movements and stuff, sounding like I know what I am talking about. )

Maybe one of the quartz Omega Seamaster Professional watch models? They are out of production now and used variants are out there. I think they would be closer to 1700 to 1800 for a good condition watch, but they are really comfortable and nice looking.

Why not wear the snowflake? I wear mine all the time, no one bats an eye since it's a Seiko and it's accurate as hell.

Mine is my Seamaster. It's comfortable and at 12 years, it's still doing great.

I would love to say the Sinn UX quartz looks very solid for a beater watch; but at it's price point it's a bit too nice to be a true beater IMO.

I got a Luminox Navy Seal chrono not too long ago as my beater/outdoor watch. So far loving it. For the price point of sub $500 I think this is a decent watch. 200M water resistance and tritium lume. The lume is quite bright at night, like this:

Alternatively Marathon TSAR also has quartz models.

BTW for a beater that only gets used occasionally, a quartz is a very sensible choice. That's why I chose a quartz for my beater too!

My beater is also an EcoDrive. I can't recommend them highly enough. Mine is the AT0810-12e. It's been on my wrist for every day of my Naval service, has never missed a beat.

A Garmin or the likes. Very functional, durable and thief deterrent. Occasional charging is the only issue.

My early 2000's omega seamaster 36mm (black dial + sword hands) has handled chest compressions, blood splatters and also the odd beach/pool.

If that's what you're dealing with at the beach/pool then remind me to head to a different one
