How do you store your PP

When you aren’t wearing it? Just trying to get some ideas for when I make the purchase.

Do PPs require special storage that is different to say a Rolex?

It might depend on your insurance requirements, mine are in a safe.

Depends on the reference...sports watches are waterproof so can pretty much leave anywhere since no worries on humidity. Of course, not lying around on a dresser table or out in the open where burglars can see it. For the more humidity sensitive pieces, I store them in a safe with a build-in dehumidifier to maintain low humidity levels. Making sure to check with a hydrometer because some safes can become humid inside due to fire proofing materials. Of course the $100k safes are the way to go if you have the means and that will definitely keep all your valuables not only safe but also at appropriate environmental levels.

I see. I still have to do some more research for getting insurance on it. Thanks for the input.

That’s probably the way to go. I’ll have to research some safes. But $100k is out of the question for me. I’m looking at $5k-$10k. Thanks for the input.

I have an Orbita box, a factory second as it was cheaper. It has two winders and a drawer that holds 6 other watches. That's where my stuff sits. We added personal item insurance to the house policy so I don't keep them locked up.

Some references are irreplaceable even after it is stolen. Besides, insurance will only reimburse based on appraised value and when you have one of a kind Patek watches it will be next to impossible to replace.

What he said...

None of my watches are so precious to me (or others) that their loss would cause much emotional suffering. The only hassle is updating the appraisals from time to time.

I've only had one watch loss, a PAM 177H (Ti Luminor Marina) that I "accidentally" handed over during a carjacking on Mother's Day right outside a casual restaurant in our town. This is >10y ago. The guy said, "Give me your wallet" and without thinking I took off my watch and handed it to him. I later learned he sold it for $50 to a drug dealer and during his arrest (serving 17 years) he wouldn't say who it was because he was too scared to name the name. So, hopefully the current owner is taking good care of it.

This T 5740 must be the most difficult watch to get at the moment. Gorgeous piece and super rare. Guess there are only 2 to 3 pieces out there. Happy for the guy who received it from Kelly.

I have a liberty gun safe in my bathroom in a custom built closet when we built our house. I have a cheap watch winder from Amazon in there where I keep all my and my wife’s watches.

I wouldn’t be giving out to many details about how and where valuables are being stored. Many images on this forum contain metadata, such as gps coordinates. It might be easy to track someone, so be careful what you post. #opsec

If I'm at home, on the bedside table; if traveling (very often) it never leaves my wrist. Watches not in use are in the safe in cotton socks.

On the wrist worn 24/7 when i had a PP. Alas, some newbies here on TRF seem to never take them out of the box / plastic like they're some rare bit of kit LOL!

In a winder when in rotation. When on the wrist, stays on the wrist.

Fair enough but I haven’t posted any pics or location of my home in Florida. The safe is climate controlled due to the heat in Miami so I don’t expect any robbers to come to my house on 2347 Ocean Avenue, unit B.

Keep it in a watch box or roll with the strap/bracelet closed around an insert holder to keep it in shape and safe from scratches. Good idea to have a personal safe with a portable humidifier for your valuables as well. I use a Wolf watch box and a Bosphorus watch roll.

The ones at my house I keep in a safe and the rest I store in a safe deposit box at my bank.

I find putting the watches in a cotton bag then place them inside a rice jar works as well. The rice keeps the humidity out. Although it’s inside a bag, just make sure none of the rice residues get inside it when you take it out. More of a going on vacation type of storage instead of leaving it out of in the summer hot humid weather...

Why do you think that humidity can get into a watchcase w/o pressure if the crown is closed,
also why do you think the humidity builds up in a SDB,where that water vapour comes?I think it s perfectly safe to put a watch in an SDB as it is.
The only reason I suggest to put the watch in ziplock bag in case of a burst pipe but even that is only applicable for non WR watches or watches with leather strap.

Never in plain view for anybody to see, pick up or steal. Not a fan of bank lock boxes. Very hot or cold in the vault when the bank is closed and apparently there is no liability on the bank for the contents being stolen or destroyed per some recent article discussed here from the New York Times.
