Case is identical in every way to the SLA017 but the caseback is 0.5mm taller. It's unfortunate they didn't bump the lugs up to 20mm but it is what it is.

Indeed. The Sub is a great watch but the Seiko has the look of a proper diver, especially on a strap. Congrats to you as well.

Beautiful retro re-issue by Seiko. Congrats!

19mm lugs are a non-issue, IMHO. Plenty of 19mm straps out there if you wanted to switch out the Seiko blue rubber. My 6263 Daytona also has 19mm lugs. No issues finding straps, and for the most part, 20mm straps also fit, depending on material. Just a tad snug.

You're correct in that they did use a new metal but the physical cases (or more specifically, midcases) are the same dimensions. However, the caseback on my 017 measured 0.50mm thinner than on the 037 with both fully seated.

The SLA017 measured 14.20mm and SLA037 measured 14.70mm. Crystals and bezels measure the same on each.

Hope that helps to clarify my statement above.

I'd post a comparison but just sold my SLA017 a few days ago and decided to keep the SLA037.

Ah, yes, makes sense, thanks. I just meant that the cases of these two great limited-edition Seiko divers are a different type of steel, so the differences go beyond the slight physical difference.

Would be interesting to see them side by side to determine whether there's a noticeable difference in the luster of the steel.
