You’d be a fearless man to wear any royal oak in the kitchen! I’d get something with a ceramic bezel or just embrace the patina like a boss.

What is your plan? I get nervous in my home kitchen with my jumbo as I have a stainless steel prep island.

That’s awesome. More power to you. I’d go 15400 as it is less bulky and less likely to catch. Either way you’re screwed though

Also first royal oak should have the bracelet!

From that angle yeah the ROO looks better. Hard to tell from close up though. Do you know your wrist size? I’m guessing 6.5-7”?

had both. Still have the 15400.

Neither are rugged watches. I really like both, but between the two the 15400 is a much better all around watch.

Neither are really suitable for wearing whilst prepping & cooking in a commercial kitchen.
Even the Rolex is overkill too, when something cheap and cheerful that you can batter (but not deep fry!) the hell out of, without giving it a second's thought.
Rather than possibly trying to impress the diners with what's on your wrist, you should let what's on the plate do that instead.

Can't go wrong with both. Buy what you prefer and suits you? Based on your collection, I can imagine the diver would appeal to you more, as it did for me.

I'd go 15400 but working in the kitchen, that bezel and finishing is going to get smoked...and I don't mean like salmon

I had both and prefer the Diver. I have been considering getting it back.

Two great watches, you can’t make a bad choice.

I have the diver with a white/silver dial. I think it is an outstanding all around watch. I wear it everywhere from in and out of boats, ocean, bbq smoker, hunting , shooting, and with a suit for my desk job. I don't like to take my watches off so I shower with it as well. I view the wear as character and evidence of some good days.

It’s funny that I used to wear deep sea in the kitchen all the time as well. Hahah I’m not the only one.

Both great watches. One flaw is that these watches often come with Bezels that scratch very easily from the factory. It won't be as durable as Ceramic Bezel.

Can I point out to those recommending ceramic as a suitable choice, that this is a commercial kitchen environment!
Would you be happy to ingest a piece of said material if it were to chip off unbeknownst by the chef?
For God's sake, will you think sensibly before putting finger to keyboard/screen.

Both nice but as others have mentioned, they collect dings and scratches relatively easier than Rolexes. Here are some photos fyr. I think we have similar wrist sizes.

I would also recommend a ceramic model. They're more scratch resistant and lighter, well the all ceramic versions are. Just be careful not to drop it on the kitchen floor.

The ceramic or FC diver will be your best choice if you can find one.

An appropriate chef's watch should always be 46mm+.......dinner plate size.

Of the two posted, the Diver fits your wrist better. 15400 seems a little too large.

But I can't condone wearing an AP in a commercial kitchen!

I'm sure customers will survive, nearly all the TV chefs have a ceramic Rolex or Breitling; James Martin, Marcus Wareing, Gordon Ramsay, even one of the Hairy Bikers has a Hulk, and all aspiring chefs are copying them.

I'd go for the 400 as the DSSD and Diver cover very similar ground, but I wouldn't wear it in the kitchen, chef, just for socialising.

Thanks for your advice! I wear my watch to enjoy them not to impress diner. Are you wearing watch to impress people? Obviously i care what i put on my plate so once in a while i get to buy what i want time to time we work 16hours a day work hard to get this something what we want. Its like milestone. However if I’m afraid to wear than i have no time to enjoy and life is short!

Get the 15400 as a dressy watch so you go out and enjoy yourself! Working in a top kitchen is incredibly hard and stressful so you deserve it

I'll go with the typical "get both" as I want to and plan to get both for myself.

I'll go with the silver/white dial for the 15400 and black dial for the Diver 15710.

The silver dial is truly unique on the 1500/15450, I love the shine on it. The black dial Diver provides the best contrast imo while the white Diver seems to be missing something on the dial for me.

Black dial diver - the rubber strap will be better in the kitchen and more easily adjustable when it gets hot, plus its more resilient than the bracelet to abrasion as will inevitably occur.

The internal bezel can serve as an egg timer too

Just be prepared for plenty of dings and scratches !

Forgive me presuming you were looking to have something other than “just a Rolex” for when you come out and greet some of your guests.
Nothing wrong whatsoever with wanting to wear whatever will give you great pleasure, but I don’t view either as suited for the daily hustle and bustle of a commercial kitchen.
If you wanted one for when you’re the diner, eating at someone else’s restaurant, then I’d say definitely – the RO being the more subtle and befitting for fine dining… although Neil will now show that photo of his RG ROO to slap down this view.
I would however draw the line at them being appropriate for exposing at the local Taco Bell… just saying, not judging!

If business is going well, then buy both, and expense be damned – you can live on beans on toast for 6 months or so.

On a similar practical note, oil, fat and other stuff that get between the links of the bracelet will be harder to get rid off. The rubber strap however can be cleaned very easily, even on the spot at the kitchen sink with some detergent!
