New Arrival - First Pilot Watch!

Oh my, this is quite the white box:

Oh no! How many boxes will it take?

Well, we know it’s an IWC:

It’s the Pilot Watch Chronograph IW377724:

I’ve been on the hunt for a pilot watch for quite a while. There have been multiple strong contenders. Just when I thought I was ready to pull the trigger, I would then see another piece.

Now, for the record, I am not a fan of NATO straps one bit. In fact, I never would have even considered this as a potential contender. However, when I saw members on other forums posting wrist shots, especially on the Santoni strap, I was hooked. To be honest, my 6-year nephew stated it best, “You’re always looking at that watch. You’re obsessed with that watch!” That’s when I knew it was time to pull the trigger!

A custom pilot strap from Paris also arrived late this afternoon:

Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July!

Mark

That’s really a great watch. I think that hour hand is a love/hate sort of thing but I personally love it. Congrats

You should have seen the look on his face when he saw the watch. With the ultimate look of disgust on his face, he said, "You got that watch?"

Thanks! I love it myself, obviously. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mk XVIII Tribute to the Mk XI because of the hour hand. However, I'm thankful I waited! This one really kept tugging at my heart, especially when I saw someone put the Santoni strap on it.

I'm looking forward to seeing it! The guy at my local AD had one on when I tried the IW377714 as a 'test trial' before I pulled the trigger. It looked stunning!

Thanks! I know, I know. That's why I flew to Newark yesterday morning. I will be heading to the Madison Boutique to acquire a deployant clasp - and possibly - the black Santoni strap!

Thanks! It's 43mm X 15.3mm. I will a little anxious regarding the size. So, I tried the IWC 377714 at my local AD:

I thought it was borderline. So, I took the plunge! It's hard to explain. But, it doesn't feel as big as I thought it would. I've tried the Sinn 103 ST Acrylic, which is 41mm. Yet, it felt larger than 41mm:

IWC 3706 circa year 2000. My first pilot watch. See any resemblance to the OP’s watch?

New Arrival - First Pilot Watch!

Congrats Mark! I love that model!

I went through a similar journey this spring, feeling the need for a pilot watch. I almost went with the exact same IWC that you have, but in the end I felt that the older 42mm 3717 suited me better.

I’m not a NATO guy either, but the one IWC uses on your model is really cool. In fact I'm tempted to go to the boutique and get one for myself. I suspect you’ll love the Santoni strap as well, they’re superb.

My 3717 welcomes your 3777...

Huge congrats!. If I did not already own a IWC pilot, I would purchase that one for sure.

Last shot on the NATO strap:

Hello IWC Boutique on Madison Ave:

First order of business was to acquire the deployant clasp. It sits dead center on the bottom of my wrist:

The tail is sitting perfect IMHO:

First live shot outside the boutique:

I like the deployant strap more than the NATO for the OP’s watch

Enjoy!
