Need ADVICE, INPUT for my first AP

Hello all,

I am looking to buy my first Audemars Piguet, hopefully within a month. I am in touch with local AD and he will be receiving new pieces within 1-2 weeks.

So far, I am interested in: 15450st, 26124st, 15202st or 15400st.
My wrist size is 6.75 inches.

Any suggestions, comments on first AP watch? And should I go with 37mm, 39mm or 41mm for my wrist size?

AP Royal Oak looks bigger in pictures so do not prefer to have oversize watch on my wrist :)

Thank YOU!!

I also have a 6.75" and the 15202st is perfect fit. 15400st will be pushing it a bit but still ok. 15450 I think is too small.

Best to try them on if you can and see how it feels.

If you are dealing with an AD they will not be getting a 15202st. Those are boutique exclusive.

Choose the one you love the most, but if not much in it then the smart play is the 202.

You don’t really need any input on what will suit you — that’s purely personal and wholly subjective, and any suggestions have a 50:50 chance of being “right”.

As pointed out, the 15202 is AP direct only, and lacks the seconds hand and quick date set. It’s also thinner, maybe too thin, to be robust enough for your typical daily activities.

I disagree with Neil’s smart play — the real “smart play” is to spend only as much as is required to obtain satisfaction. If that means a pre-owned 39mm 15300, then so be it.
Only once you’ve tried some on, will you know for sure which/what size suits your wrist shape (more important than size alone!). Just take your time and don’t rush the decision-making process.

I have a 6.75" wrist, and the 15202ST is perfect for me.

But your preferences may differ. Color choices, power reserve, thickness, thinness, quickset date, second hand, dial layout and details, weight, budget, and wait time are all preferences that only you can factor into your decision.

To me the 15202 is too small and the 15400 was perfect. I say go and try all the different sizes, but as few have mentioned, I doubt you'll be able to try a 15202.

My wrist is a similar size. A couple I’ve tried on for reference.

15400

15202 OR

15710

Ultimately it’s up to you what you’re after and what feels perfect for you !

With Royal Oaks, I think the shape of your wrist (flat vs round) will be more important than your wrist size. The only way to be sure is to try the watches.

AP boutique will usually have the 15202 in gold. Try those on to get an idea of size for them. They’ll almost never have the steel version on hand.

I am falling for AP 15400st.

I always prefer buying from AD. Pricing on 15400?
Any thoughts, comments?

Also, any discount available on APs? This will be my first purchase of AP.

You won't get a discount on a 15400. It's hard to purchase right now.

Which color dial are you leaning towards?

Silver dial.
I do not like blue, black.

That's good, silver is more attainable than blue. I think silver is the second most popular dial color. Check the trusted sellers.

I just repurched my 15400 from an AD. they are a large retailer and they said they are sold out of 15400s for the year, silver dial. we will start to see 15400s become like the other steel sports of rolex/patek.

Maybe in a normal market, but this ain't that and the AP market is all set to follow PP's. But as I said it is best to get the watch you like wearing the most.

Update 06/17/2018:

Stop by at AD and check out 15400. Guys, AP is not for me. I really do not like the feel and look for it. Plus it was huge watch on my 6.75" wrist. RO 15400 41mm wear big and its more like 42/43mm.

There is no substitute for Patek :)

If someone is looking for a AP 15400, let me know. My AD might still have it and can sell within few days.

Cheers!!!

15202 would be my choice,to try it on is to want it.

But
AP Bezel scratches can be painful and make you want something with ceramic.

Hey, no problem. Sounded like you were getting ahead of yourself in the first post. The Royal Oak is often an acquired taste. If it’s not for you now, it may be at a another time.

But for now, move on to something else.

The Octagon aesthetic is not for everyone, same with the rounded one on the Nautilus, no harm no foul.

15202 is boutique exclusive? Unfortunately, no AP boutique in Midwest :(

Did you even like the look of the watch?
If it was simply a case of it being just too big, but the design still spoke to you, then followhe advice I gave in my previous post — assuming you’re not one of those people who snub their nose at the thought of buying pre-owned.
I suspect you’ll find the 39mm dimension to be spot on.

Unfortunately you won’t be getting a 15202ST new at retail in this market without a multiple purchase history at one of the boutiques. Therefore I’d write that one off.

The RO design is definitely polarizing so no worries.

Look, not over Patek.
But its a good piece to have it in my collection.

I do not like buying pre-owned :)
