Rented a Range Rover Sport

And my wife and I both really liked it.

My wife and I flew to Orlando Thursday to spend a few days for my sisters 50th birthday and rented a Range Rover Sport to drive from Orlando to the Melbourne Beach area to spend a few days with family and friends. We had a great time visiting but the time went by way too fast. My brother lives near there and my mom and her husband do too so we had a nice family reunion.

Anyway, we rented from Enterprise and we were considering a Maserati sedan but it was kind of small and it was dark blue with black interior and Florida is kind of hot and muggy in July so we went with the white Range Rover Sport (honestly it didn’t take much convincing on this one with my wife).

Needless to say, we are kind of considering one to replace my wife’s CLS in a year or so. We loved the way it drove. Very smooth and comfortable, fantastic AC and we liked the size. Very posh and there wasn’t anything I really didn’t like about it other than the skinny steering wheel (used to my fat wheel Mercedes).

I know a few members here own these so I wanted to see what the general consensus is on them. Are they reliable? Or am I going to regret buying a British car for all the obvious reasons?

Well, it was more reliable than the Audi A6 we rented a few years ago. Not sure that’s saying much though.

I know, I should just buy a GX460. I could own that for a decade and never have to worry about it.

If you’re leasing, nothing to worry about while under warranty.

If you’re buying and keeping beyond 50k miles or 3yrs, I’d pass.

If you’re rich, what difference does it make?

Ha!! This is accurate. Had one Rover. Never again. Even in warranty the constant trips to the service department were enough to get rid of it.

I could have spent the rest of my life tracking down electrical gremlins in my Dads 2004. Its pretty much brengineered in. I bought it from him and drove it to Houston and sold it for a new 4 runner. Friend still has it left out in the elements in a bog near Houston. Jumps in, stale gas, starts right up. The Rover never started right up.

Oh and LR are owned by Tata - so actually its an Indian car not a Brit ......ummmm not sure that helps

Worst vehicle I have ever owned and I did all of the reviews before and they told me exactly what to expect and I bought it anyway. Loved the styling but constant issues under warranty and a limited dealer network make it difficult. I now own a Lexus LX 570, the best vehicle I have ever owned, and it is light years beyond the Rover in my ownership experience. I also bought a Lexus GX 460 for my daughter and have had no issues in over two years of ownership. I would look at the certified LX 570 as they can be had for the price of a new GX 460 and are a lot more vehicle.

Almost 20k miles on mine.

Absolutely love it. Nothing I have driven before or since compares.

I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding newer gen RR’s. Everyone I know that owns one loves them and have little if any issues. However I go online and everyone can’t wait to get rid of theirs.

Maybe Tata fixed the reliability issues. Their heavy work trucks are bullet proof.

My wifes like the RRS too ... must be a wife thing.

She currently has a '16 GX460 ... We're thinking of the new G05 X5, Range Rover Sport, new gen. Cayenne, or XC90 to replace it early next year. This is definitely a competitive class ...

My dad buys a new one every 3 years and never has a problem. Warranty would cover any issues though.

You simply can not own one out of warranty, period.

I would love to own the full size range. They are one of the best looking cars on the road and the interior is very nice.
I just gat over the maintenance and bad reputation of reliability. I have had high maintenance cars in the past and don't need that headache anymore.
I just bought two new Toyota Landcrusers which are basically the same size as the RR.

You can tell by my avatar that's I'm a Toyota Land Cruiser guy, if you want reliability get a Land Cruiser/Lexus. My Toyota land Cruiser bought brand new in 1998 now has 280,000 miles with no problem, I did all the maintenance myself.

We've had only Lexus since about 1990. Until the latest ones, my wife always had the top of the line LS and I had one of the first SC430s. We now have a 2018 ES350 fully loaded and a 2014 IS250C also fully loaded. Lexus makes a great long-lasting car. Wouldn't have anything else.

PM Shannon (swils8610) and get yourself a land cruiser. Price is far better than sticker and it’s worth the premium over the GX. I drove them both several times and the GX feels underoptioned unless fully loaded. At that price you might as well get the LC or LX.
