#Memorization

How are collectors/dealers memorizing Ref. # for vintage pieces. Is there a means to the madness? I know there are a few prefixes that match with certain years of production but I'm still having trouble learning them.

I am in search of the best resources for vintage Ref. & Serial #'s.

I appreciate & thank any resources passed along. Thank you!

Wouldn't say it's memorization necessarily; when you have a passion for a piece, the name/ref just seems to follow. At least that's what I find. And there is a degree of logic which progresses through the evolution of individual models.

For example: 1675, 16750/16710, 116710.

Admittedly it isn't a science, but neither is it entirely random.

Thank you for the info passed along!

morafa4 - Thank you very much. It's reassuring that only an experienced expert or knowledgable collector would hold the depth of knowledge required to ring off Ref. # / Serial #.

Watchcrank - Seems like an accurate assumption! I find myself reading more and more about the history and Rolex and learning something completely new and foreign everyday.

Boaters - Thank you! I will be looking into that section of the forums with more detail.
