1980 16013 look okay to buy?
Before I purchase this 1980 16013 I wanted to make sure that nothing looks weird or off. Thank you, this would be my first Rolex.

looks like a genuine and fine example of the plastic quickset model. the bracelet also looks to be in great shape with no stretch as well.

A complete and clear pic of the whole dial, face on, would be useful. Maybe some lume missing, for example?

You would want to see some better pics of the band and clasp wouldn't you guys ? these are often replaced, as one poster states it's in pretty good shape, it is my opinion when buying older datejusts you should examine the band closely, cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for responding, I have seen the watch in person so I know all the lumes are there. Although, there is some light stretch, I would expect to see a 36 year old band with more wear. I feel like I need to examine the band more closely for proper stamping bracelet code, etc. The watch was just polished so that's also why the band looks in such good shape.

You need to check the links not just the clasp as they are often just transplanted on to new links section, get pics and post in the watch out section Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Awesome watch. Based on my research Rolex is really the best watch in 2016

This is the front dial. The hands look like they need to be replaced since the lume is coming off the hour and the minute hands, also the seconds hand is tarnished. Is this still worth buying even with these needed repairs?

OP, we still need close up pictures of the bracelet links front and back along with close up pics of the clasp front and back in order to tell you if things look ok

more than anything, I'd ask what it's priced at. there's a few issues potentially, and i'd be curious what the price point is.

Price is sure important. If the repairs are costly, you get yourself to a price where you can probably get one in a condition more to your liking. And there are a whole lot Datejusts out there. Datejust lover here... Last edited by Tbonewalk; 18 November 2016 at 11:10 AM.. Reason: typo... |

The price is $2700, the seller is willing to go half of getting it serviced and will also provide a 1 year warranty on the movement. The real problem is that I love the watch. 😄

I take it you have seen it live and in person? you mention "the lume is coming off the hour and the minute hands, also the seconds hand is tarnished."... I wonder if, like on mine, the appearance of the hands may be obscured by the crystal, which is somewhat scratched on mine. I wonder how that happens. Does moisture get into the case that corrodes, or is it just natural- perhaps just a slight bit of moisture is natural? Does the lume fall off and flake off; I thought it simply loses it's function. Perhaps it was serviced as a result of some moisture somehow or other getting into it. |

Yes, I have seen it in person and it's a complete beauty. I'm not exactly sure the lume on the hands is peeling off, but overall its a very nice watch and the price is reasonable for its age and condition. I kinda like the idea of keeping the hands as is, but I'm not sure if it'll bother me every time I look at it. Great replies thanks so much.

just the obvious- it is an automatic, correct? and has a locking crown- correct?
I wouldn't worry too much about the bracelet date codes. I bought two, one DJ and one 36mm Explorer and both had changed bracelets, non original but appropriate to the watch and had no effect on the value of the watch. You can also check online for the basics, just to be sure the bracelet is genuine. The design and scrolls have a certain pattern. Good luck w it and keep us posted and dig the cool music in Austin and the great Enchiladas! |

Bracelet...
notice how the bottom scroll on the left of the crown curls upward and around, while the scrolls on the right do not... hard to explain it exactly, but you should be able to see it with some study...

There's a bit more to it than that, what if the clasp has been transferred to new links section which is very common ? More checks than that are needed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I finally go to get the watch and I purchased it. When I get home I get to inspect it under a magnifying glass. After further inspection it appears to me that the sticks and the lumes are not perfectly aligned with the hash mark. Is this normal? Is it worth buying keeping? I think it'll bother me knowing everything is not centered. I can still return it within 24hours for a full refund with no restocking fee. EXPERTS PLEASE HELP!!

It may have been relumed or redialed at some point. You've done a lot of work finding just the right watch and I wouldn't throw that away over a 250 dollar dial. If it bugs you take your time and find the perfect dial for your perfect watch.

Thank you Richard great point! After giving it some thought and sleeping on it. I understand now that the dials can be replaced at any time. I'm going to keep the watch and replace the dial sometime in the future but I'm not going to rush into that.
