I have a relationship with an AD and want so much to buy a Patek, but I can't find a piece that speaks to me. The 5170 comes close but the limit of 30 minutes for the chronograph bothers me. Maybe if Patek produced something like a 5160 but thinner, perhaps by having a manual wind(eliminating the thickness that comes with the rotor)....

Although they say the factory tour is jointly sponsored by Patek Philippe and the AD, my impression is that it is Patek who is paying for the trip.

As for the 5170, it is a wonderful chronograph. IMO the proportions of the case diameter + thickness and the dial layout are much better than the 5070.

Are you referring to the 5160, perpetual calendar with hand-engraved officer's case? Most Patek perpetual calendars in the past 30 years have been automatic wind watches, although there has been a series of PCs (3940, 5140, 5396) that use the micro-rotor 240 movement, making the case quite thin. Also the perpetual calendar chronographs (3970, 5970, 5270) are all manual wind.

Sorry I meant the 5960, not 5160. Damn single malts.

Enjoy your trip! And please sharing us lots of pictures of the trip.
Yes second manufacture visit to Geneva. There were two of us at AP with Pateks on, my 5960 and a 5980 1R. What can I say, I sold my 15202 before I was invited. This trip I'm trying to decide, 5905P or 5524G.

Bring both! Congrats on your trip. I am sure it will be a great memory.

100% support of anything is quite a bit.

If you are considering the 5960 and looking for a thinner case, you should definitely look at the 5270. With a manual chrono and a perpetual calendar, the 5270 is actually thinner than the 5960 with an automatic chrono and an annual calendar, by about 1mm.

They have not offered a 33mm men's watch in 15 years and never offered thin watches. Now they are expanding the 42mm size, little late to the game if it is their "new" direction.

I think an alternative phrase is complete support. Better?

A straggler left I think: 5959R - current men's model.

5959R is tiny, but looks so nice in person.

Everyone has their personal preferences. I am in the minority, preferring small dress watches like my 3520D. It happens to be ultra thin too. It is elegant, in my opinion, and not too small on my 7-inch wrist. The proportions seem appropriate and I like seeing some of the watch strap on the top of my wrist, helping to frame the watch. I'd gladly wear a 5959 too; a beautiful watch, indeed. I like larger sport watches as well, but for dress, I will stay with 32-36mm watches. Personal preferences and variety make collecting and these discussions fun.

Well said Darren, and I agree. The 3520 is a classic dress watch in every respect.
