Any idea what this is or what it's worth?
Someone offering me this Submariner for sale. Appears to be a 1680 in Yellow Gold with a Tiffany nipple dial. Seller wants $20k.

It's a fake dial. If you believe it to be real, then ask to see the papers which show the retailer as Tiffany. ————— Instagram: @onthedial |

Agreed it looks suspect. And agreed that anyone who's trying to sell a "$20k" watch with those pix is a 🤡

I would definitely look at the watch, as an 18K 1680 (even assuming that the dial is fake - which it might or might not be) is worth a lot of money - with $20K being very reasonable assuming the case is not overly polished, numbers are clear, etc.

Unless there are papers showing Tiffany as the retailer, then its just a novelty dial. If pics of papers do come, be sure to post pics of them too since the papers have been known to be faked as well. And very clear pics are needed, otherwise I would walk away fast.

Seriously? Even if authentic, a 1680/8 head is only worth about half of the asking price. The dial looks suspect, the winding crown looks funny to me as well, and the box is from the 1990's.

Agreed ....

For me, I would pay a lot less for a Tiffany logo'd Rolex watch than I would pay for the same reference with a standard Rolex dial watch .... unless the Tiffany provenance is absolute. Why ? Cos I'm just too darn lazy to argue when I on-sell the watch down the track. " ... Yes, it is genuine Tiffany ... " ... " No, it's not ..." ... " Yes, it is ...". It's not always easy to determine the authenticity of bezels, inserts, dials, hands etc. and adding a Tiffany dial in just makes life too difficult for me |

seriously, no. not even close - comparing quick set, sapphire model to a 1680/8 is kinda silly.
for the record, and copying directly from Tommy: "The 1680/8 is an all gold 1680 and utilize the calibre 1575 movement and plastic crystal with a black or blue nipple dial. The 16808 is the same watch basically but the newer version that features the 3035 movement and has sapphire glass, originally with blue or black nipple dial then in app...1983-4 changed to the yg surrounds and big plots with gloss. The 1680/8 is quite a bit rarer yes." |

It's a head-only and a put-together collection of stuff; it should be valued accordingly.

Those pictures are super grainy, do you have any better pictures? I would not pay $20k for this watch, at all.
Maybe with better pictures you'd be able to negotiate the price down? |
