5980 without a doubt, the blue dial with the gold is absolutely stunning.

interesting. i thought i'd be slammed for asking the question:::)))) a bi-color nautilus chronology (out of fashion?) against a model with more complications......hmmmmm...surprise!!!!
i personally have a slight preference for the 5980AR but i am a it worried that i will not be able to sell it in the future because of two tone. possibly the 5960G is collector material.

No slamming mate. For two reasons.

1) the 5960 does not have a hardcore fan base.

2) the 5980 has a hardcore fanbase and the two tone blue dial is exceptional, even tough two tone is Beverly Hills 90210 Jason Priestley style.

5711/1r is much the safer bet, and better looking watch imho.

the issue here is between 5980AR and 5960/1G. 5711R is not in the game at this point.

I'm not sure everyone knows that the 5960 1A is the new white gold blue dial on brown calf strap with pin buckle. You should post pictures.

The new 5960 is a huge improvement but it's still a bit like putting lipstick on a pig

Out of the two I'd go for the 5980AR. The combo of the blue dial with the gold works really well.

Agreed , not a fan posts that ask questions without posting pics of the watches they are referring in general. I guess there are some exceptions, if you are talking of something like the 5711, for example. But me even if it the reference its an obvious one I always post them, I feel like I am sending my point across without a shadow of a doubt

Cheers 🍻

thanks to all for the thoughtful replies! i have decided to go with the 'neither' fraction:::))) in fact, today i gave a downpayment for a 5235G regulator-AC. the watch is in the shop already and i shall pick it up first thing upon my return to austria at the end of october:::))) i like the esthetics of the 5235 and the fact that it exhibits a sense of humorism as it challenges one (a bit) in reading the time:::))))
btw, on this five week trip i have left my two pateks at home and took the rolex GMT2 batman along as a beater with dual timezone function. so far, i am pretty happy with the rolex but miss the pateks.
