Australia Purchase

Am I correct in assuming that I can't buy a Rolex in Australia and have it shipped to me here in the states I saw a great watch here on TRF and would like to sort this out before contacting the seller-

Can't answer your question but IMO, I would think it's better to wait and find one in the US unless it's a rare watch or something. Personally I would never buy something expensive from overseas. With customs, taxes, shipping, distance, etc., it seems like there's a lot that could go wrong. Good luck!

Many have received Rolex from overseas.

Even ROLEX SA in Geneva when shipping a watch back to the US write
"Precision Instrument" in the custom declaration form.

True....However, it is illegal to mail/ship a Rolex into the USA without consent from RUSA themselves!! The chances of that are slim.....
If stopped by customs when entering the country, via mail/courier, it will be confiscated.
There's plenty of info here on the boards including some legalities on the subject.

Must be special if you want to buy from Australia..The prices here in Aus are ridiculous at the best of times..can't David SW sort you out?

I recently shipped an Omega Speedmaster Auto from Australia to the US, sold to a member here on the forum. Valued the watch at 1000 dollars for insurance purposes. Watch got stopped at US customs. Had to complete a US Consignee Watch Information Sheet. Not a particularly detailed form, but had to identify the materials, mechanism & value breakdown, ie how much $'s to case, movement, bracelet. Once submitted, package was back on the move to its new owner.

I have sold and shipped 6 or more watches from Australia to the US ( including Rolexes) and only had trouble with one shipment. It was sent Air Mail and insured and tracked. It arrived in Arizona at the buyer's local post office then disappeared. It took 2 months to finalise the insurance claim..and took me, the seller a huge amount of time and inconvience and heaps of frustration at the buyer's end. All other sales have been trouble free.
Notwithstanding the above I think both buyers and seller have been lucky . And I too would recommend DavidSW as prices here in Australia are far higher than in the US and if you buy from any of the Trusted sellers on this Forum you have the confidence that if something does go wrong you can work it out relatively inexpensively. If you buy from Australia it is just too expensive to send it back and forth.
With the watches I have sold to the US if one of them had an issue the buyer would have to send it back to Australia..I would then have to send it to a local watchmaker...and then post is back . Lots of time, money and risk..not worth it. And I dont think anyone would want to go to that amount of trouble.

Had it been one of those elusive Rolex Speedmasters things might not have worked out so well.
