advice on pepsi bezel GMT master

I would appreciate any advice from the forum on

1.which model I should be looking to buy (serial no)

2. anything to look out for or avoid

3. the right price range - I would only want a pristine model with full box and papers and £3500 and up seems to be the going rate in the UK

4. can you tell what colour bezel ring was fitted at the factory and does it matter if a different colour ring has been fitted later? (I had a new factory ring fitted to my el primero rainbow flyback of the original design and it restored the orinal beauty of the watch)

all advice gratefully accepted.

Tim.

It sounds like you want a later model so would be looking at a 16710. The older 16700 is another consideration. Rolex USA label Rolex by bezel insert colour, rest of world certainly UK did not.
Rolex UK will do a Bezel insert for you while you wait, last I heard was around £40 so I would not get hung up on what was originally fitted, just get the best you can. £3200 will get you a good one, last of the runs had a 3186 cal fitted which there is a premium for - your choice to pay more - the 3185 is more than adequate.

Tim,

Martin and I are lucky enough to own the best of vintage and modern w/ our K series [2001/2] GMT II 16710's. They feature lug holes [for easy strap and bracelet changes] and solid end links. Rolex only produced these for a few years.
Good luck,
dP
