Rolex gave Rolexes to their employees?

well surfing ebay today I found this vintage 14kt Rolex 6090, and on the back it has an engraving for a man who put in 10 years service, at the bottom it says Rolex, so I'm assuming he worked there. has anyone else seen a Rolex awarded to a Rolex employee for their years of service? would be pretty cool getting a watch that you could've helped build as a token of appreciation. none the less, here it is. interested in thoughts

I'm suspicious...especially of the lines crossing out one reference model.

I've seen them do the line thing before, especially in the 50's, I just find it strange it would only say Rolex at the bottom and not From, or something before that. $2,450 is a pretty fair price for the piece too which makes you wonder why someone would forge a CB marking.

who knows though, I've googled it a bit and came up with nothing, hopefully someone will be able to shed a bit of knowledge on if Rolex is known to have handed out engraved watches in the early 50's. the dial is quite clean.

Lines through the reference isn't suspicious at all. Common practice back then. The Rolex philosophy is to use up all the spare parts and that the customer should never see the inside of the case anyway. All quite normal.

Fine-lookin' watch. I think caseback engravings can add some mystique to a vintage watch, not that I'd pay a premium for it.

Apologies - I think that is rather amusing about crossing out the dial reference. I know they often use one set of reference numbers for multiple models (18000 for example).

The dial is in beautiful condition.

Interesting...a quick google search only turned up a still-living South African journalist for me. I think it would have had the full company name, not just Rolex, if it was from the company.
