5514 COMEX or MK2 DRSD Thin Case

I am thinking of changing some watches but want to buy something new before I let anything go.

What would we think is better and why a 5514 comex or Thin case DRSD ?

Hi! I'm partial to the 5514 because I own one. IMO its a fantastic watch with great investment potential. That said, I've never owned a DRSD but am thinking to add one soon. Good luck whichever direction you go!

as much as I love the COMEX 5514...i'd say go with the thin case DRSD

The 5514 is amazing. I'd love a non comex dial. That said, I do own a mk2 thin tropical.

tough choice ,,, red would get my vote today , but i could change tomorrow , eithers great , boths a dream.

The other thing to think about; unless you are mental (me) you probably then only need one double red. He has a mk4. Maybe you add the 5514 b/c a 1665 is already at home, no?

Or maybe you get both and sell the mk4?

One day I will be as mature as M Luther and just a handful (3 or 4) of minty minty watches. His 1665 mk2 thin tropical sets the market.

Since you have a DRSD already I would go for the 5514. Also, the 5514 was one of the only models that was specifically made and was not available;e to the general public. That makes it super cool. COMEX has been coming off in recent years from its peak. No reason why but I have been told that some buyers who had been really active have left the market. That makes the drop an opportunity and 5514's are as cool as COMEX gets. Good luck. Here is my more "common" 16600 COMEX....

its a bit of an apples n oranges question …they aren't really two things that would be in the same sentence ….a drsd is just a store bought production model , a 5514 is a special issue piece …and a drsd mk2 ( thick or thin really make little difference) is a 25-30k watch, a proper 5514 2.5-3x the price and a much bigger leap into the sickness that is our obsession ….

the more common debate for some is the PPDRSD vs COMEX debate.

I love tropical DRSDs, but would much rather have a logo dial Comex 5514.

I'm definitely of the minority that I don't particularly care for the red text sub/sd's.....definitely the Comex for me....but let's be honest OP, I've seen some of your collection and they are all killer. No wrong choices here, just different flavors.

I looked for so long to find a nice example of the MK2 thin case, I found lots with chips on the minute markers were movements had been removed for servicing . Vendors telling me it was normal and acceptable . I actually knew it would bug me so waited nearly two and a half years to find my MK2 without chips ,I mean none ,It has changed so much since it arrived the plots are much lighter now as it has seen a English summer, The caramel dial I had so many reservations about has really grown on me, last night I was reading and it was quiet ,I heard a click from my wrist sure enough it was the date changing one minute early ! . Bloody impressive for a fifty year old watch .

Maybe one day I will own a 5514 but for now the PP DRSD is special enough to keep me going.

I have a 5514 Pre-Comex Sub with HEV. The Comex numbers on the back have almost worn off. I can "nearly" see 2 of them. Looking for advice on how to raise the numbers again without destroying the back.
