1018 vs 116000

Hi Guys,

So, my modest Rolex collection is currently 1016, 1675 (today's watch), 16550, and 5513 , and I'm now looking at the 1018. At the AD this weekend (trying on the 116719 just in case I hit the lottery jackpot, haha) I saw the 116000, the 36mm Oyster Perpetual, no date, indices. Nice watch!

These two are the same size, similar dials...and there's a price hike in a couple of weeks for the new ones. Given the collection and the relative merits of the two watches, what do you think? Anything unusual about either watch that I should consider when choosing between them?

You have a 1016 and a 5513, so you obviously understand the lure of "time only" Rolex. I must confess I love the 1018, I have more than one. It has a slimmer profile than the 116000, only slightly thicker than the 6424 (the manual-wind 36mm). I'm a vintage guy, so I don't mind acrylic crystals: that's an obvious difference.

Hmmm, thicker, yes, but not THICK, not like a SD or anything. Trouble with the 1018 is they're so difficult to find in decent condition for a reasonable price (like all the 101x watches I guess) that I might not be able to get what I want without getting pretty spendy...I can get a 116000 tomorrow. Anyway thanks for answering, cheers

Same boat, although I really don't like the bezel on the 116000....

Missed out by 10 minutes on a 1018 last Friday.... at <1500 euro's... for a '70's model. The seller didn't really know what was in their hands. Couple of weeks ago seen a decent '66 head only for 2.400,--

So yeah, they're out there, but normally at a price indeed.
Good things come to those who wait ?

B.t.w., I see 6424's advertised for 34mm and 36mm at Chrono24... made in 2 sizes, or the seller who is wrong?

the 1018s are nice. but id only want one with a black dial. they are really nice with a black dial. look for a vintage 1600 with a black dial. rare but well worth the time spent on a search.

That's a lovely 1600! I'm looking specifically for a no-date though. My fingers were getting tired from cranking this 1675 through two weeks on the calendar before I braceleted it on yesterday...at least the 16550 has a quickset, but that's all, I'm not buying any more date watches, full stop.

Well, the stable has a new arrival - http://imgur.com/a/J1x36 - many thanks to u/motoikkyu for my "new" 1018! On a Hirsch Rivetta in the pictures. So now it's 1016, 1018, 1675, 5513, and 16570...there's a watch for all occasions in that lot, I think.

You take great photos, Toronto, and that is a fantastic strap!

As for the 6424, that one is always 36mm, the 34mm version is the 6426. People get confused because the casebacks don't religiously match the watch, common in that time period. You can always tell what you are looking at because the 6424 has no lug holes, but the 6426 does.
