Flip D-Blue for PP 5167?
I enjoy the dial of the D Blue, but am thinking of flipping for the 5167 Aquanaut... Anybody else made this move?

Perhaps better to add the 5167.

That's quite the size difference, you tried on the Aqua?

Very different watches and feel as I'm sure you're aware. I own the 5167 and love it. Awesome look and the rubber strap is great especially in the summer. That said I also have a 5513 and really enjoy the feel of a heftier sport watch. For me it would depend what other options I have or plan to acquire.

I'd do it as I found the DSSD just too thick for me.

I would do it, but just as a reminder, you are playing very close to daytona territory....

I'd do it just for the size reasons alone. If I wanted a watch that thick and wasn't a pro diver it would have to be a chrono for sure. They are tanks for sure compared to the 5167. I have had my 5167 for a while and rarely take it off. The only downside to PP sport watches is the very very fine brushed finishing. It scratches much easier than the majority of other bezels/bezel inserts. I only have 3 very small hairline scratches with many many months of constant wear and they aren't noticeable unless really looking for them. But if shine the light on them just right and take a pic they seem very pronounced which isn't good when flipping to those not in the know.
Edit. Since I brought up the fine finishing maybe some could correct me if I'm wrong but I originally was under the assumption that PP used softer steel until read some info contradicting that. The article said it was the method of the finishing and not the actual metal itself that made the bezels scratch easier. |

Looks like a nice watch, but I'm kind of surprised that it has no hacking for $20,000 watch with a rubber trap.

I will recommend the aquanauts as well. Slimmer and more comfortable to wear.

That's like asking for an opinion on swapping dinner for a lawnmower. Two completely different watches. If money wasn't an issue, then I'd keep one and add the other but as for swapping, which one are you going to be happier with?
Good luck.

Definitely
Especially from your collection if you have a SD then the deep blue is kind of redundant. If you have a larger collection, fine but I think a smaller collection it's ideal to have the watches that are quite different (but can be similar). Going from rolex to Patek is definitely a step up in the watch game/horology and plus you can put it on a black alligator strap for a different look |

Very different timepieces imho. Keep the Rolex imho.
Had the Aqua and the bezel is a scratch magnet if you plan to wear it as a normal watch as you would a Rolex. The Patek is more men's jewelry that also tells the time. Wear it carefully. On the 5167 that was here had the lume fall out of one of the indcies. i nearly beat the &^%$ out of the ceramic Sub and it shows virtually no wear after a year of nearly 24/7. Am sure you know the Patek would never take that type of wear and still look good. You might also want to factor in the longer 10 year service interval and fast turnaround by Rolex. JMHO Are you looking for sporty jewelry or a usable mechanical timepiece for sports?

Very different have never owned a DSSD and never would too big and overkill, did own the Aquanaut mesmerising dial, much lighter, scratches are a minor issue, for me the noisy rotor was a real issue, not bad noise just a lot noisy, like wearing a bait caster real on my wrist, you could hear it while driving and not a super quiet car either, you could hear it walking along the street as well.

Those 2 watches are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I prefer the D-Blue but if adding is an option, I'd do it. The 5167 is a very nice piece. |

This and only this.
Think forward 10 years - do you still see yourself wearing a DSSD? I didn't, and sold mine (owned it several times). The 5167 is a bit quirky design but it really grows on you. Then again, I would perhaps skip both and get a 116719 Pepsi GMT instead! :-) |

If I had the D-Blue, I would trade for the 5164. Yes, it costs more but it has a more complex dial like the D-Blue to the DSSD, and a larger wrist presence. The change to a 5167 would be too dramatic.

I'd do it, but you better try the pp on first. They're completely different watches...

the aquanaut has less of a wrist presence. it's not just slimmer than a DSSD -- it's several mm slimmer than a Sub or GMT. But it's a really nice watch with a comfortable strap, and the display case back is a nice touch.
